Wheeling a stick shifted car at the dragstrip can be a handful, and if the car is making big power, that task grows exponentially. The car wants to fight you as soon as the clutch gets dumped and that makes keeping the car pointed the right way down the track a huge task.
At 1,500 horsepower at the wheels, Joel Grannas’ Toyota Supra is a handful each pass as he grabs gears and runs deep into the eight-second range.
Garners’ Supra is no joke, as this white monster is built to the hilt with the best parts on the market. Under the hood is a three-liter 2JZ-GTE motor that Accelerated Performance built and filled with billet main caps, Wiseco pistons, Carillo HD rods, and a stock crank. A Garrett GT47-88R 88mm turbo makes all the magical boost and pumps it into the 2JZ through an Inline6Performance intake.
The Getrag six-speed paired with a Tilton Triple clutch takes all the punishment the powerplant puts out and runs it to the IRS rearend through Driveshaft Shop goodies. A Garrett GT47-88R 88mm turbo makes all the boost and pumps it into the 2JZ through an Inline6Performance intake.
With all of those great parts the Supra puts down 1500 horse to the tires on the dyno with two guys in the back to avoid any tire slippage. Currently, Grannas’ Supra is one of the quickest stick-shifted cars in the world, running a ridiculous 8.36 at 175 mph through the stock gearbox.
