Chasing records one quarter mile at a time is what some racers live for. It is, in large part, the entire premise this sport was founded upon: to push the performance of a given combination to ever-greater heights. These days the records keep falling all over the world and Scott Porter has one in the bag and is going for more. With his wild V6 Nissan-powered dragster, Porter is on a quest to become the first into the fives with a six-cylinder powered anything in the quarter mile.
Currently Porter owns the record for the quickest Nissan door car in the world. The Pro FX Infinity G35 Porter pilots has been into the 6.30 range at over 220 mph. The billet block VQ35 twin turbo power plant makes some serious steam up top, but not enough to get the G35 into the five-second range and claim the record.
Not one to quit due simply to circumstance, Porter pulled out one of the Infinity’s back up VQ35 engines and stuffed it into a dragster chassis. According to the Scott Porter Racing, the engine uses a factory crank and pistons, rods, heads, cams and turbos that came from the first incarnation of the G35. After getting the correct licensing for the dragster, Porter put the big boy tune up in and ripped off at 6.68 at 212 mph — not bad for a backup motor! The plan now is to put the record setting engine from the Pro FX Infinity into the dragster and make some history.
