We’re no strangers here at powerTV to wacky, wild, and just plain old weird drag races. After all, what better way to prove how fast your car is than running it as fast as it can go in a straight line. And it isn’t always cars. Motorcycles, scooters, even snowmobiles have been getting in on the drag racing action as of late. But can you drag race from the comfort of your couch?
Only if you live in Australia, where an Aussie shop combined a couch with a 1400 cc motorcycle engine, producing a couch that can go 101 mph. And just to prove how serious this couch is, they matched it up against a 600 horsepower Holden Ute.
This ain’t just any couch. Evolution Motorsports, an Aussie aftermarket outfit, has made a four-wheeled couch with an attached front desk (for aerodynamics, of course.) They then took a 1,400 CC (1.4 liter) Suzuki GSX motorcycle motor and attached it to the couch. The couch was able to set a speed record of 101 mph, handily beating the previous couch speed record of just 92 mph.
But that’s not all! As though they needed to further prove that this is the world’s quickest couch, Evolution Motorsports then lined up their La-Z-Boy against a 600 horsepower Holden Ute. The couch, weighing probably less than a quarter what the Ute weighs, still couldn’t keep up with the awesome torque of the Holden. But the race was way closer than any competition between car and couch should be.
