The horsepower wars of 2016 are slowly beginning to wind down across the United States as the racing season comes to a close. This year, records fell across multiple sanctioning bodies as racers pushed their machines to the limits, finding new ways to generate big power. Vortech Superchargers, in particular, had yet another banner year creating boosted power, as their products and sponsored racers found the winners circle at multiple venues in the NMRA’s Renegade class.
Longtime racer Chuck Bartholme made his return to NMRA heads-up competition in 2016 after several years away from the series. His Fox body Mustang packs a 370 cubic inch Ford motor getting boost from a Vortech V-27 YSi-B-X head unit. With Vortech onboard, Bartholme was able to make passes deep into the seven-second zone and pick up the Renegade class win at the Columbus NMRA event.
Terry “Beefcake” Reeves has been a fixture on the NMRA tour over the years racing various blue oval machines, and in 2016, Reeves came out swinging with a brand new engine combination and serious chassis upgrades. These changes, along with his V-27 YSi-B-X Vortech blower, made him the quickest supercharged Coyote powered Mustang in the world with a 7.84-second blast at 175 mph.
Renegade racer Alton Clements was locked in an epic points battle with Aaron Bates for the majority of the 2016 NMRA season. Throughout the year, Clements and his Vortech supercharged machine earned multiple number one qualifying spots and event wins en route to his runner-up points finish. Clements plans on turning the wick up even more for 2017 and use his Vortech blower to its max potential to win a NMRA title.
