Tim McAmis Race Cars (through their Velocity Composites division) has become one of drag racing’s premier race car body designers and manufacturers over the last two decades, and while the bottom line is always a consideration for their projects, what they truly aim to deliver is a product that the world wants to see.
More than a year ago, the team in Hawk Point, Missouri began producing the C7 Pro Mod body which was developed in conjunction with Tim Hodgins of Cynergy Composites. Now that it has taken the sport by storm, they’re on the lookout for the next project to undertake. And one of those that has plenty of potential — at least, if you ask us — is this first-generation Dodge Challenger body, which was originally conceptualized back in 2010 at the request of McAmis himself.
As one might imagine, the process of creating a new composite race car body is a lengthy one… The bodies go through extensive simulation testing within the team’s CAD software to determine optimal look, performance, and fit. From there, a plug is milled and full-size testing begins, with additional refinement typically taking place before arriving at a final production piece often a year after beginning the project.
So, this is where you come in — and the very reason why they are teasing the world with renders of a Dodge Challenger. What they want to know is, what does the drag racing community want to see next? If not the Challenger, then what body style?
No question, their catalog of over 20 body styles, including the latest C7 is going to be hard to top, but the Velocity Composites team is up the challenge of doing just that. And we’re looking forward to seeing it, whatever it may be. But, they want to hear you first.
