Wild 9-Second Triple-Turbo Duramax Diesel-Powered Chevy Nova

Drag racing is all about going fast and sometimes you have to change things up to hit that next go-fast goal. Rick Fletes and Russ Wullenwaber previously campaigned a nine second, triple-turbo, Duramax-swapped diesel Chevelle that was equal parts evil and awesome, but their new creation takes it to the next level. The “Triple Threat” Duramax Nova picks up where the Chevelle left off and takes diesel swap performance to new heights.

triple threat 3 [2]Wullenwaber owns the 1973 Nova and Fletes handles all of the driving duties, while Dow Brothers Racing did the back-half and other chassis work on the car to get it ready for battle in the NHRDA Pro Stock category. The engine is a 2007 LBZ Duramax that features Carrillo rods and a set of forged pistons. A set of Exergy injectors get fed all the diesel they can handle from dual CP3 injector pumps, and the power flows through a Hughes Pro Mod XP5 transmission and converter to a heavy duty Pro Mod Jerry Bickel Race Cars-built rear end.

triple threat 2 [3]This Nova has some hardcore racing parts that were made specifically for the swap and combo. Galt Machine fabricated the motor mounts, valve covers, and the dry ice intercooler, while Wullenwaber and his shop RPM Motorsports did all of the turbo system design that uses three 75mm BorgWarner turbos that put out over 115 psi of boost.

Fletes and Wullenwaber are still shaking the Nova down and have a current best of 9.15@148 [4] mph with a lot left on the table.  With a little more track time and tuning the Triple Threat Nova should easily roll some coal deep into the eight-second range.
