While the majority of racers no doubt prefer the security and the cover that an enclosed trailer provides, the overall value of a quality one trailer cannot be overstated. From initial entry cost, to lesser requirements of a pickup truck, there’s ample reason why a nice open trailer is the right choice for weekend-warrior racers making short treks to and from the racetrack, and  simply want to go racing on a working-man’s budget.

Because race car are often built with low ride heights — and because fiddling with ramps and tongue angles to get them loaded can be a pain — self-lowering trailers are often worth their money in gold. Often utilized by car-show types, self lowering trailers can be equally as useful for racers, allowing them to drive their vehicle right up onto the deck without any ramps whatsoever. No having a buddy spot you on the ramps or anything.

The gang over at Flying A have a new 2022 self-lowering trailer from Futura Trailers on the lot, including a Pro Sport 19.8-foot model with a winch. The 2022 19.8-foot (deck length) Pro Sport lowering trailer comes equipped with a recovery winch already installed. The trailer features an 81-inch deck width, an all-aluminum construction, tandem 3,500-lb axles (GVWR 7,000-lbs, and load capacity of 5,500-lbs), removable fenders, inner perimeter airline track tie-downs, and recessed taillights. This trailer is priced at $15,995, and ready to tow off the lot.

Coming in a lesser price range ($11,995 to $13,995) is a selection of brand new 2023 Timpte 18-foot lowering trailers, which sport tandem 3,500-lb torsion axles, breakaway battery and tongue storage box, a wireless remote, and 14-inch aluminum wheels. These can also be optioned with a lockable tire rack, rock guard, recovery winch, spare tire and spare tire mount, solar panel, removable fenders, and tie-down kits.
