SELECT COVERAGE BY DAY:
- It's another beautiful day here in central Florida's West coast. We may reach a high temp of 79 degrees today with full sunshine forecast through the day the track may get a little tricky this afternoon. As always it's do the best you can, cut a light and race the track.
- Eddie Careccia ran his best early in the day, a 3.823 @ 189 for the Open Outlaw top qualifier.
- Troy Pirez leads the field in X275 with a 4.96 @ 146 after running a 5.07 in the second session.
- Mike Harrison leads 5.50 index with a 5.558 in his 72 Vette, here we have just five runs over the index and the rest of the field under. Looks like the nice weather will have some racers making adjustments to get tighter on the index for round two.
- 6.50 Index brought out 20 cars so far with Bill Lee Jr. on top of the field with a 6.504 driving a 79 Fairmont this weekend. All but three cars ran under index in the early session, besides Lee Oscar DeCardenas and Eddie Chamberlain.
- Eddie Careccia from mars Hill, North Carolina put up a nice 3.82 @ 189 for low ET and top MPH of the session. Melissa Hutson has the only other car in the 3.80‘s so far.
- The first pair out in Open Outlaw was Ron Logan and Eric Edelmann with Logan running a nice 4.003 @ 181, he wound up sixth after the session.
- Tripple B Bad Brad Brand looked good early in his run but got some air under the front wheels and headed towards the center line and throttled back to avoid an incident.
- Jose Gonzalez was the first car in the 4.0’s in Auto Pro Mod with a 4.020 with his Pro Line Racing powered turbocharged GTO. John Vergotz was just .002 behind that later in the session.
- Outlaw 10.5 has No Mercy event winner Rob Wells on top early with a 4.20 @ 187 with Candido Sanchez in second @ 4.38, the tie breaker went to Sanchez over Mike Keeler with a better MPH.
- Eddie Whitlow sits in second with a 4.75 @ 149. Friday morning Eddie got a call from a friend asking if he was missing any parts as someone was shopping some parts for a Nova for sale to his friend. He wound up running to his storage yard to find cut locks on the trailer and missing intake and carbs, a pair of tires, assorted tools and other items. The police were called and a meeting arranged with the seller while Eddie showed up just in time at the shop to watch the police taze the resisting offender and place him under arrest.
- Amanda Long edged out Kevin Fiscus running a 4.73 @ 165 to Fiscus’ 4.74 @ 167.
- Ruben Tetsoshvili was pushing out some smoke from the left bank during his run and while staging the car, Chad Opaleski looked good coming out but slowed and shut down early to a 5.33 @ 113, he pushed out some smoke through the lights. I will have info on this coming later, hope they are both able to continue in competition this weekend.
- Clint Lonon and the Lutz Crew lead X275 after running a 5.04 @ 143 this morning, Eugene Rodriguez and Cory Berry follow with both of them also in the 5.0’s. Yesterday’s 5.0 players Rick Losee and David Hill are in the top ten.
- Last shot of the night at BMP. Track is hot at 10 AM.
- Chad Opaleski lost the blower belt on one of his runs, he has spares and there was no other real damage.
- Lil Pup racing's Tom Wirth Jr. ripped off a clean 3.97 on his second run today. The altered is sporting new red paint now to match the other ride driven by Matt Wirth.
- Dave Hill from Casselberry, Florida runs a turbocharged SBF by Lewis Performance Machine. The car is starting to run very well and laid down a 1.21, 3.31 5.05 @ 142 today. Other sponsors include Realstreet Performance and VP Fuels with TRZ Motorsports the main sponser and responsible for the build and chassis work.
- Scott Husted from Holiday, Florida has his ODR/Limited Street Mustang out. The car is usually good for low 4.7's to 4.6 second passes with a twin turbocharged BBC from Nelson Competition.
- Brian Goss has his new car here for X275 along with team mate Mike Freeman. These guys always run hard and do there best so are always a threat.
- John Vergotz has the Pro Mod here this weekend, his first run resulted in hard tire shake right off the line.
- Pete Bairan runs this beautiful 67 Chevelle in Outlaw 632. Pete and his son did the cage in house with chassis tuning and fabrication help from Johnny from Everything Hot Rod. He has had the car 16 years through various combos since he purchased it as a stock driver. Power comes from a 632 ci BBC from Progressive Race Engines.
- Shawn Knighton managed a 5.25 @ 135 last weekend for a personal best and coming away with no broken parts is always a plus. Shawn and his wife Christine live in Palm Harbor, Florida. The car is powered by a Vortech blown 357 ci. SBF from Nelson Competition.
- Melissa Hutson in here for Open Outlaw with her TA/D, it's got solid 3 second power provided the track holds it, which usually isn't a problem.
- Cory Swanstrom aka; "Big Country" from Zepherhills runs a Fast Forward Race Engines 347 ci SBF with an 85 MM Turbo. He has been as quick as 5.13 at Sunshine so far after just 11 runs to date. He has a fresh trans recently freshened by Larry Hart after losing the pump last weekend and also trying a different converter, if it works it stays in, if not... well you know.
- Mel Nelson had a rough weekend in Georgia last weekend buring a head gasket and torching the head and block on a different run. The Block was welded in the car at SGMP by Tommy from Mac Fab Racing. While it's a little patched up he is confidant he can get a few rounds out of it but is switching some spare 91MM turbos in place of the larger units he ran in Georgia to help save the engine.
- Jesse Violante shown here with engine builder Chris Nelson run OL 10.5 and NMCA Super Street 10.5 W. He ran some 4.30's last weekend before losing the transmission so this weekend has a borrowed unit and converter from Billy Adams' Team Midnight Racing.
- From left to right, Aaron Gramer and Rick Losee. Rick has a new Mustang he bought after selling the familliar Chevy II he used to run. This car is lighter and should work better. He is using the same engine from the prior car including the plate nitrous system from Induction Solutions and has about 11 runs on it so far. Last weekend he ran Ultimate Street at the No Mercy event running some 5.20's, he has to weight less here for X275 and got a 5.18 so far after pedaling it some.
