DOMESTICS RULE AT ANNUAL WORLD CUP FINALS IN MARYLAND
Led by Outlaw 10.5 veteran Joe Newsham (Outlaw vs Extreme) and LSX star Mark Carlyle (Radial vs Modified), domestic racers dominated the annual World Cup Finals at the Maryland International Raceway, leaving plenty of shattered records and career best numbers in their wake.
World Cup Finals
Maryland International Raceway’s annual World Cup Finals, pitting the top domestic and import racers in head-t0-head battle once again brought record-shattering performance, and none were more shocking than those witnessed in the Outlaw vs Extreme category, where Richard Sexton recorded the first three-second eighth-mile pass and the quickest quarter-mile pass in Outlaw 10.5 history. But when the dust settled, it came down to a pair of domestic racers — Joe Newsham and Steve Drummond — for the class hardware. Newsham, who earlier clocked a career best 6.13, ousted a slowing Drummond in the final with a 6.83. In Radial vs Modified, No. 2 qualifier Mark Carlyle drove his LSX-powered Corvette to victory over Jose Mendez by a 6.67 to 6.95 count, while Dean Marinis won X275 vs Hot Rod from the No. 2 spot, overcoming Tony Alms’ much quicker 7.13 with his 7.28 in the final.
