GLUED! Grudge And No Time Racers Invade US 41 Motorplex

Not everyone likes to follow the crowd, so with the popularity of no prep races on the rise, race promoter Tim Ringer decided to head the opposite direction during the weekend of June 4th through 6th at the US 41 Motorplex in northern Indiana. Instead of heading up just another no prep race, Ringer leapt to the other end of the spectrum, and the idea of GLUED was born. “Everyone else is doing no prep races, and we wanted to do one with the same cars. But, on a super sticky surface. So I wanted to create GLUED,” Tim explains.

What better way to get your point across, than to get one of the most notable track prep masters backing you? With the well-known Tyler Crossnoe onboard, GLUED was preparing to live up to its name. Being a clocks-off weekend, the bad boys and girls of No Time racing began filing their way to the Morocco, Indiana track, ready to throw down for part of the big chunk of change that was up for grabs.

The excitement surrounding the event was growing steadily on social media since it had first been publicized. Cars and crew were making plans on rolling in from many surrounding states and come race day, the event comprised a star studded cast. However, success more often than not, comes from hard work and perseverance, and GLUED was no different. Many renovations and changes had taken place over the previous year and this year, preparing the track for many nights of big horsepower action and excitement. How’s the saying go? If you build it, they will come?

“Last year we tore out the track from the 400-foot to the 1320 and replaced it. We have over 680-feet of concrete on the racing surface now. We have been replacing all the old lumber with new, new timing system, redoing the bathrooms with all new fixtures and installing a shower in each bathroom. We have all new food and menu at the concession area,” and the list of improvements goes on and on, shares Ringer.

The Bad Boys on 10.5's saw a total of 32 entries come race day -- a respectable car count despite the attempts of Mother Nature. The Bad Boys on 10.5's raced for a purse of $15,000.

Mother Nature was looming in the forecast, indicating she may rear her unsightly head during a portion of the weekend, but the gates to the Indiana track opened regardless and the car haulers and trailers began trickling in. The car count was increasing throughout Friday evening, and with free entry and guaranteed payouts, that should definitely not come as much of a surprise. Tyler Crossnoe began working his magic on the track and around mid-afternoon Friday, testing was underway and an assortment of hot rods were creeping into the staging lanes looking to make some shakedown passes.

Larry Boyd, in his beautiful turbochargedl 1968 Plymouth GTX, advanced past John Pryor in Round 1 of the Misfits on 26's to meet up with Nick Redner in Round 2.

The loom of rain in the future may have cost the event a few numbers on the participation count, but regardless, the 26-inch tire class drew in nearly twenty cars, and the 10.5 class was at over thirty. “The weather didn’t help us Saturday. Even with a low car count in some classes, we paid out nearly $60,000, as advertised. We do what we say we are gonna’ do,” Ringer emphasized.

Michael Roemer, in the well known 'Flying Pickle' met up with The Grinch in Round 2 of Bad Boys on 10.5. The Grinch was able to seal the win and advance to Round 3.

When Saturday dawned, the rain showers came, and throughout most of the morning and into the afternoon was an ‘on again, off again’ tease from Mother Nature. The weather may have hurt a bit, but overall the spirits were not dampened and race day was pushed to Sunday. With the sprinkles on Saturday also came the arrival of Jackie Knox and The Sonoma, and John Andrade Jr. and The Cutty, of Street Outlaws fame. Both were pleasant and positive about the event, and kindly, Andrade shared his thoughts with us. “I enjoyed the track and enjoyed the local people raving about how the new owner has made so many upgrades in such a short time. Tim seems to have the right attitude to make the track grow. The track and facility were very nice and everyone was super friendly. My family and I had a great time!”

Obviously, we can’t do a play by play of every pair through eliminations, but we can share some highlights. 31 cars showed for the Bad Boy’s on 10.5’s. Much of a surprise, Turbo GT fell to Keith Ryan in round 2 of the 10.5 class. Ryan, getting out on Turbo GT took the win, as he was unable to reel him in. The recognizable bright green ‘94 S-10 of Micheal Roemer took a hiatus from Ultra Street racing to play during the weekend. Roemer drove through round one and met up with The Grinch in round two. The Grinch took the stripe and proceeded on to the third round.

Two twin turbo cars -- The Fugitive and Jason 'Pooch' Rueckert met up during Round 2 of the 10.5 class. Pooch was forced to lift and The Fugitive took the win.

Even the well-known Oldsmobile of Jason ‘Pooch’ Rueckert made an appearance. The stunning Oldsmobile made it to the second round of eliminations, where Rueckert lined up with ‘The Fugitive’. Rueckert was forced to lift and The Fugitive advanced. Lukas Weldon met up with Keith Szabo round three. Szabo took the win and advanced on through to the finals, where he went head-to-head with Kip Broaddus and his ProCharged ‘94 Mustang. Szabo came out victorious and laid claim to the hardware and the cash.

Twenty cars made the call for the Misfits on 26's class.

Redner took the win on a holeshot before red-lighting away his chances to Kevin Morandi in the following round. Kentucky native Trevor Fuqua, wheeling his truck, the ‘Murderdime’, put up a valiant fight against Ryan Hendrickson in round two. Hendrickson ultimately piloted his way through the rounds to take home the cash and the win in the final round of the Misfits on 26’s.

If you missed out on this spectacular and fun event, don’t be disheartened. There’s another chance to head out to Morocco, Indiana as SUPER GLUED is just a few short months away. Charlie Bennett, a pillar in the success of the event shares, “SUPER GLUED will be twice as big. We plan to streamline the pairings process for first round. Advertise more, guarantee more money, and have more fun. Tim Ringer says they will continue to make improvements and upgrades to the facility. I think events like these are the future of heads up racing. The mixture of class cars and grudge cars has been a tough sell but we will pull it off!”
