ADRL: Race Day Recap on DRAGZINE. After a tumultuous season thus far, Jason Scruggs put it all together on Saturday to put one in the win column, taking the Pro Extreme title at the Virginia Motorsports Park over protege Mick Snyder, 3.63 to 3.69. Mike Castellana came out on top of a record-breaking affair in Pro Nitrous that saw Burton Auxier blast to an incredible 3.74, defeating a fouling Jeff Naiser in the final. Ashley Owens also got in on the record-shattering party during eliminations, uncorking the first three-second pass in Pro Extreme Motorcycle history with a 3.98 on his way to yet another victory in the class. And Mike Janis, a regular competitor in the Pro Extreme division, earned the win in the first 8-car Pro Modified exhibition, edging out Khalid Balooshi on a holeshot in the money round. Nightfire Nationals: Paul Romine scored AA/Funny Car honors at the prestigious Pepsi Nightfire Nationals at the Firebird Raceway in Boise, ID on Sunday, reeling off a 5.90 to defeat the 6.11 of John Hale. Brett Harris scored an easy victory – his second straight - in AA/Fuel Dragster when veteran nitro pilot Tony Bartone crossed the centerline, voiding his attempt to win his first Nightfire Nationals. And Rod Burbage also drove to victory lane in Outlaw Pro Modified, recording a 6.09 as opponent Bret Williamson slowed. For complete final rounds results, log on to Firebird Raceway.
IHRA Nitro Jam: Weekend Recap on DRAGZINE. It doesn’t seem like that time of the year yet, but Sunday’s final rounds at the IHRA’s Northern Nitro Jam at the U.S. 131 Motorsports Park in Martin brought to a close the Nitro Jam season, crowning the final set of winners in another successful season. As he has for much of the year, Peter Gallen dominated the Prostalgia Funny Car division, winning both races and charging to the quickest nostalgia flopper pass in history Sunday, 5.55 seconds. The Pro Fuel category meanwhile was dominated by the females, with Cherissa Smallwood taking the title on Friday, while Kristen Dennis earned her first Ironman on Sunday in her Nitro Jam debut. Ron Maroney and Tom Padilla both scored in the exciting Fuel Altered category, while Jay Turner and Steve Dorn did likewise in Nitro Harley. NHRA Division 4: Randy Meyer sailed to victory on Sunday at the West Central division meet at the Cordova Dragway in Illinois, defeating Brandon Booher in the finale, 5.38 to 5.47. Iowa native Dale Brand did likewise in Top Alcohol Funny Car, cruising virtually uncontested to victory when opponent Vern Moats slowed to a 29-second pass. David Billingsley was able to overcome a holeshot from Bruno Massel to earn the Competition Eliminator crown, while Michael Mans (Super Stock) and Chris Knudsen (Stock) also scored.
