ODRC: Same Day Event coverage on DRAGZINE. Gustavo Turull downed El General teammate Jose Gonzalez and then popular racer Brad Brand to earn the Auto Pro Mod win in Bradenton on Sunday, running a 4.08 to Bad Brad’s 4.16. Mark McElwee, the only non-Florida racer in the Open Outlaw field, used a nice 3.87 to take all the marbles back to Michigan as Ron Logan slowed in the final. Tony Johnson bested #1 qualifier Rob Wells in the Outlaw 10.5 finale, 4.45 to a slowing 6.84, and Kevin Fiscus took an easy 4.69 win in ODR/Limited Street as opponent Amanda Long had troubles and struck the tires. Mike Schmidt went wire-to-wire in Outlaw 632, qualifying #1 and edging Eddie Whitlow in a great 4.66 to 4.70 drsg race. In X275, Walt Drakeford set low ET in his Mustang in round one and in the final, used a great .039 to .076 advantage out of the gate to defeat Troy Pirez on a holeshot, 5.02 to a 4.99.
ADRL: The ADRL brought the curtain down on its 2011 season at the Texas Morplex over the weekend with a 3-day schedule that included the revamped Battle For The Belts on Saturday, which were won by Todd Tutterow (Pro Extreme), Khlaid Balooshi (Pro Nitrous), Dan Millen (Extreme 10.5), Richie Stevens Jr. (Extreme Pro Stock), and Ashley Owens (Pro Extreme Motorcycle). On Sunday, it was time to crown some race winners, as Jason Scruggs raced to the Pro Extreme winners circle, besting Frankie Taylor 3.60 to 3.71. Dan Millen closed out a dominant weekend with a win over Grant McCrary in Extreme 10.5, while Shannon Jenkins, subbing for Mahana Al-Naemi, showed why he’s “The Iceman” with a decisive win over Burton Auxier in Pro Nitrous. CHRR: The California Hot Rod Reunion has become a must-see event befitting of the glory days over the last 20 years, and this year’s rendition ast the fabled Auto Club Raceway at Famoso lived up to the billing, with an incredible turnout of nostalgic race cars and drag racing legends. In Nostalgia Top Fuel, second generation racer Brett Harris nailed NHRA star Tony Bartone to the tree, capturing the title on a holeshot, 5.72 to a quicker 5.69. Meanwhile, Nostalgia Funny Car, which began with 33 incredible machines attempting to qualify, closed with a bang as John Hale drove to a record 5.58 at 255 MPH to best Kris Krabill’s 5.78 for the Reunion crown. Kin Bates’ 6.26 easily handled Jeremy sullivan’s 6.71 fore the A/Fuel title, ans Bob Lander overcame a big holeshot advantage by Don Enriquez to take the Junior Fuel title, 7.11 to 7.23. NHRA Division 4: Aaron Tatum cruised to the Top Alcohol Dragster title at the final Division 4 event of the season at the Royal Purple Raceway in Houston over a slowing Michael Manners, while Chris Foster took Top Alcohol Funny Car honors with a final round rout of Steve Burck, 5.65 to 5.80. Scott Cashio took a 16 foot win over Chris McGaha in Competition Eliminator, -0.530 8.35 to a -0.471 8.10.
