ODRC: Same Day Coverage From Bradenton. Driving for Pro Nitrous star Robert Mathis, Chris Patrick downed newly crowned ADRL Pro Mod champ Jimmy Keen in the Outlaw Pro Mod division at Bradenton Motorsports Park’s annual Outlaw Drag Racing Championship on Sunday, running a 3.97 to Keen’s slowing 4.25. Melissa Hutson took a break single in the Open Outlaw final in her supercharged dragster, while Pro Drag Radial finalists Will Stevenson and Frank Mewshaw split the final round money after both broke in their semifinal matchups. Rodney Campbell powered his Camaro to victory in Outlaw 632 with a final round 4.78 to oust J.R. Atkins, and Charles Hull defeated Eric Kenward in a rare pedal-fest final in X275, 5.48 to 5.51.
NMCA WEST: Same Day Coverage From Bakersfield. Mike Bowman took his ’68 Chevelle to victory in Pro Street Sunday at the NMCA WEST’s season ending event at the Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, defeating Joe Lepone Jr. in a strange money round in which both wounded cars left before the tree was activated. In 275 Drag Radial, Dragzine’s own James Lawrence notched his first series win, running a sub-record 7.35 in the final to defeat Kevin Young, while Ryan Jones put a 4.95 on the board to win in Outlaw 8.5 over Dan Hale. Al Jimenez took True 10.5 honors in his ’72 Camaro from the No. 1 qualifying position, carding multiple six-second runs on his trip to the winners circle, while Pennsylvania native Mike DeMayo earned the win in N/A 10.5, running 8.00 in the final.
NHRA: Race Recap From Las Vegas. John Force and Matt Smith powered to victory Sunday at the NHRA Toyota Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, clinching the Funny Car and Pro Stock Motorcycle Mello Yello championships, respectively. In Top Fuel, Antron Brown scored his fourth win of the season to move into second place in the Countdown standings, once again denying Clay Millican of his first NHRA victory. Shane Gray notched his first win of the season in Pro Stock, defeating V. Gaines in the final, while Troy Coughlin closed out the Pro Modified calendar with a 5.91-second rout of Danny Rowe.
