NHRA: Event Recap here on DRAGZINE. Del Worsham collected his class-leading fifth win of the season in Top Fuel over the weekend, as he downed fan favorite Dave Grubnic in the Route 66 finale, 3.97 to a game 4.05. In Funny Car, Mike Neff recorded his fourth win of the season, giving Ford it’s 200th national event victory and making it 8-for-11 on the season for John Force Racing as he defeated a tire-smoking Jeff Arend in the money round. In Pro Stock, Greg Anderson denied Erica Enders her first Pro Stock victory, capturing a holeshot win on a 6.67 to 6.65 count. And in Pro Stock Motorcycle, reigning champ LE Tonglet defeated surprise finalist Chip Ellis for his second win of the season, 7.04 to a 7.15. NMRA/NMCA: Same Day Event Coverage on StangTV and StreetMuscleMag. The inaugural NMRA/NMCA West Coast Shootout at the Auto Club Dragway in Fontana was a great success with eight action-packed classes being contested, led by Xtreme Drag Radial, which was won by Terry Barkley after opponent Sandi Wold timed out at the tree. In Hot Street, low qualifier Dan Bott edged out Anthony Valentino for the NHRA Wally, while Ryan Jones earned Wild Street honors with a great 7.94 in the finale.
JEG’S Allstars: The NHRA’s South Central Division 4 racers captured the JEG’S Allstars team crown as the annual sportsman showdown commenced on Saturday at Route 66 Raceway. Division 4 sealed the deal with the Super Stock final when Slate Cummings defeated Division 7’s Tony Mandella. Jim Whitely won Top Alcohol Dragster for the second straight year as he stopped Division 4’s Mike Manners, and Frank Manzo claimed the Allstars Top Alcohol Funny Car title for the ninth time. Along with Whitely, Stock competitor Mark Faul and Competition Eliminator champ Frank Aragona Jr. also repeated with Allstars crowns. Friday Nite Rage: Event Recap here on DRAGZINE. Mike Hazlett bested Eric Burnett for the Outlaw Pro Mod title in Indianapolis on Friday night as the third Friday Nite Rage event of the season went into the books. Sheldon Bissessar earned the Ultimate Dragster 10.5 victory as he defeated low qualifier Eddie Careccia, while Kris Fewell put his ’69 Camaro into the winners circle in Limited Street with a 5.68 rout of Ron Stinson’s Thunderbird. and in True Street, Darren Hilterbran recorded a 5.01 in the final to best opponent Tim Donathen’s 5.36 for the win. IHRA Sportsman Spectacular: The Maryland International Raceway played host to the Summit Sportsman Spectacular over the weekend, a special race conducted by the IHRA to celebrate the organizations’ past four decades with record payouts and other prizes. and fittingly, the IHRA’s most decorated sportsman racer found his way into victory lane on Sunday as 16-time champion Anthony Bertozzi earned Super Stock honors and the $5,000 check that accompanied it.
