NHRA: Event Recap on DRAGZINE. Spencer Massey earned his third career NHRA win in Top Fuel at the NHRA Summer Nationals in Topeka on Sunday, defeating surprise finalist Bob Vandergriff Jr. in the final, 3.91 to a game 3.96. In Funny Car, Robert Hight edged teammate Mike Neff in an all-John Force Racing finale as Neff struck the hides and couldn’t catch the streaking Hight. Second-generation Pro Stock ace Shane Gray earned his second career win and his first of 2011 as he downed Greg Stanfield in a stellar final round shootout, 6.67 to a 6.69. IHRA Nitro Jam: Peter Gallen and Mike McIntire traded blows in Prostalgia Funny Car competition over the weekend at the inaugural Pittsburgh Nitro Jam, with Gallen downing McIntire on Friday and the results reversing on Saturay night. In Pro Fuel Dragster:, Robin Samsel took the crown on Friday, while Michael Manners did likewise on Saturday, and in Nitro Harley, Jay Tuner took the honors on Friday and Mike Scott grabbed the hardware on Saturday. NHRA Division 2: Just a week removed from the Southern Nationals last weekend, the NHRA’s Division 2 Lucas oil Series visited the Atlanta Dragway, where Duane Shields took down Rich McPhillips for the Top Alcohol Dragster crown, 5.60 to 5.72 and Melinda Green-King edged Mark Billington in the Top Alccohol Funny Car finale on a holeshot, 5.82 to 5.79. NHRA Division 7: Chris Demke and John Lombardo Jr. concluded a weekend of racing action at the Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, collecting in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car, respectively, while Tom Mettler won Competition Eliminator over Steve Graham, Ton Mandella took Super Stock honors, and Chag Loge did likewise in Stock Eliminator. IHRA Division 6: The IHRA’s Border Bandits Division 6 tour rolled through the NL’Akapxm Eagle Motorplex in Ashcraft, B.C., o0ver the weekend, where Peter Saruga used a great .007 light to earn the Top Dragster crown on Saturday, while Randy Modersohn used a starting line advantage of his own to best Pat McNally in the Top Sportsman finale. On Sunday, Jared Erichsen took down heavy hitter Mark Faul in the Super Stock final, and Mike Shannon was the benefactor of a scant -.001 red light by Eric Goulden to take the Quick Rode trophy. PSCA: Rick Snavely used a stellar 6.73 from his ’05 Mustang to best Ron Weems’ 7.08 effort to capture the Outlaw 10.5 crown at the PSCA California Nationals in Fontana. In Extreme Drag Radial, Levi Hanna 7.939 just edged out Bill Dunaway’s 8.841 in a grat final rund matchup, and #1 qualifier Victor Brum’s 8.27 in the Hot Street final was enough to down Craig Gustofson.
