NHRA: Event Recap on DRAGZINE. Tony Schumacher’s win-less drought continued at the hands of teammate Antron Brown on Sunday in Sonoma, as Brown came out on the winning end of a great drag race, 3.88 to 3.91. In Funny Car meanwhile, Ron Capps earned his first win of the season and he second straight in Sonoma, downing a likewise as hungry Tim Wilkerson in the final. Mike Edwards’ Western Swing sweep hopes came up just inches short, as Greg Anderson overcame a slight holeshot to win his third race of the year, 5.56 to 6.57. And in Pro Stock Motorcycle, carrying the title sponsors’ colors, LE Tonglet just edged out Michael Phillips, 7.00 to a 7.01. PSCA: John Mihovetz led the list of winners at the PSCA’s Shootout After Sundown at the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday night after he downed veteran John Scialpi in the final, 6.20 to a slowing 8.24. Gary Soulages drove his Ford Lightining pickup to an impressive win in Outlaw 10.5, qualifying #1 with a 6.86 and earning the win with a 6.98 to 7.06 rout of Ron Weems’ GTO. Sandi Wold also picked up a win on the weekend in Extreme Drag Radial, cranking off a 7.79 to easily handle the slowing 9.19 of Jeff Longden. For more results, visit the PSCA forum.
NHRA Division 3: Competition Eliminator titleist Chuck Haubiel led the list of winners at the NHRA North Central division meet at the Mid-Michigan Motorplex over the weekend, where he edged out Rick Brown’s truck in a close final round match up, 8.26 to 8.38. Jim Prevo took Top Dragster honors with a stellar .003 light in the final, and Andy Horne did likewise in Top Sportsman with an easy final round single when opponent Glenn Butcher was unable to make the call. IHRA Division 1: Brett Nesbitt captured the Top Dragster title on day one of the IHRA Division 1 Pro-Am event at the Richmond Dragway, taking an easy victory when Mandy Teets-Seal was timed out on the starting line. In Top Sportsman, Terry Logan used a dead-on 4.80 in the final to defeat a right-there Calvin Butler. On Sunday, Corey Taylor nailed the tree to the tune of a .004 reaction time as opponent Richard Alford Jr. lit the red bulb, handing the Super Stock win to Taylor. Jesse Alberts did likewise in the Quick Rod finale, as opponent Bo Upton was ..006 red, allowing Alberts to cruise to victory. Full results are available at Drag Race Central.
East Coast Door Wars: Maryland International Raceway hosted the East Coast Door Wars over the weekend, where Michael Martin took his ’69 Camaro to the Outlaw 10.5 crown, overcoming a dead-late reaction time to run down Tim Essick, 4.49 to 4.67. Ricky Fox also parked his Mustang in the winners circle, coming out of the Outlaw Drag Radial field on top with a stellar 4.53 to the 4.67 of John Carter. And NMRA runner Andy Manson survived a huge field of 30 X275 racers to notch another victory, 5.01 to the slowing 5.51 of Rich Bruder. For full results, visit the MIR website.
