NMCA WEST:Same day coverage from Pomona. Veteran doorslammer racer Joe Lepone Jr. used a clean 6.23-second lap in the final round to claim the Pro Street crown over Mike Bowman at the NMCA WEST’s second trip to the famed Auto Club Raceway at Pomona on Sunday. In True 10.5, Rick Snavely was dominant, qualifying No. 1, setting low elapsed time at 6.97, and waltzing into victory lane on a solo 7.10 pass. In 275 Drag Radial, the Young brothers — Kevin and Jeff – were dominant once again, as Jeff qualified atop the quick field while his brother outlasted the competition on race day, besting Artis Houston in the final, 7.43 to a slowing 8.73. NHRA:Event Recap on Dragzine. Shawn Langdon earned his second Top Fuel victory of the season and third of his career Sunday at the NHRA Kansas Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka, just edging out Tony Schumacher by a 3.75 to 3.78 count in the money round. In Funny Car, Johnny Gray took home his second Wally trophy in as many weeks when he defeated a tire-smoking Robert Hight in the final. And in Pro Stock, Jeg Coughlin Jr. got his first win of the season in an all-Mopar finale with teammate Allen Johnson, running 6.68 to AJ’s 6.69 after the two left with identical reaction times. ADRL: Jason Scruggs was not to be denied in the ADRL’s first visit to the Cordova Dragway Park in Illinois on Sunday as he was .006 on the tree and flat outran final round opponent Brandon Snider, 3.68 to 3.76, to earn the Spring Drags IV crown. Scruggs was joined by Pro Nitrous winner John Camp, who defeated perennial favorite Mike Castellana in the final. Trevor Eman used a nice 4.13 to claim the Extreme Pro Stock title, and Jamie Hancock, a former ADRL champion, scored a decisive 3.97 to 4.15 victory in Pro Modified before his weekend took a turn for the worst when his Camaro turned hard into the wall after the finish line. X-DRL: The fledgling X-DRL also visited a new facility, the No Problem Raceway Park in Belle Rose, La. for the first time over the weekend for the 1st annual Bash on the Bayou. Tommy D’Aprile led the list of winners with his Pro X-Treme triumph over Quain Stott, 3.67 to 3.74. Robert Mathis earned his first Pro Nitrous win with a 3.86 over Jeff Naiser, T.J. Tindle earned his first Pro Modified victory with a 3.99-second defeat of Kevin Rivenbark on a holeshot, and Todd Moyer easily defeated Mike Murillo with a 3.89 in the Pro Turbo finale. NHRA Division 3: Marty Thacker bested newcomer Kyle Michalek in a blown versus injected nitro Top Alcohol Dragster final, 5.40 to 5.45, at the NHRA North Central Division Cavalcade of Stars at the Summit Motorsports in Norwalk over the weekend. Thacker was joined by Top Alcohol Funny Car winner Chris Foster, who did likewise in the final opposite of John Anderika, scoring a slight advantage out of the gate and charging to a 5.65 to 5.72 victory. And Greg Kamplain took his B/ED to the winners circle in Competition Eliminator when opponent Frank Affronti left too soon in the final handing over the easy victory.
