Mickey Thompson Tires Monday Morning Race Report

NMRA: Same Day Event Coverage on StangTV. While the NMRA season opener in Bradenton may have been a little short on cars, it certainly made up for it in excitement. In Pro Outlaw 10.5, Tim Essick overcame the woes of his competitors to start the year on a high note, recording low ET of eliminations with a 6.66, as surprise finalist Archie Marasco lost traction. In Super Street Outlaw, it was once again the John Urist show, as “The Fireball” advanced to the finals with a pair of 7.0’s before disposing of Andrew DeMarco in the money round, 7.16 to 7.39. In Drag Radial, Jason Lee and his new F1X blower combination easily handled the field for yet another trophy, uncorking a new class record 7.41 on his way to 7.57 winning lap in the final. Don Bowles also picked up a win in the opener, outlasting a struggling Robbie Blankenship in the final, 8.45 to 9.23.

March Meet: Recap and Photo Gallery on DRAGZINE. The turning of the calendar to March in Bakersfield can mean only one thing: the 54th running of the fabled March Meet. As they do, racers and fans flocked from around the world to see Tim Boychuk capture the Nostalgia Funny Car title over second generation driver Chad Head, 5.80 to 6.00, while Wisconsin native Jimi Young took Top Fuel honors with a great 5.68 in the final round toe down a right-there Rick White and his 5.69. Canadian Les Davenport was also one of the big winners, earning the A/Fuel trophy with his 6.22 in the final. These racers were joined n victory circle by J.D. Zink, Rafael Quiroga, Roy Castagmetto, and a host of others.

NHRA Division 2: While trying to put their third event of the young season in the books, the competitors on the NHRA Division 2 trail fell victim to weather delays and track weeping issued that followed, forcing a Monday conclusion to the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at the South Georgia Motorsports Park. NHRA Division 4: The NHRA Division 4 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series tour kicked off its 2012 campaign over the weekend at the Royal Purple Raceway in Houston, as Mike Trumble scored the Competition eliminator title with a stellar .0027 second margin victory over Charles Watson in the finale. In Super Stock, John Covington dashed Trumble’s hopes of a double-up, while David Latino scored a double breakout win in Stock Eliminator. Others winners included Jacky King (Super Comp), John Salter (Super Gas), Robert Cool (Top Dragster), Matt Crisp (Top Sportsman), and Charlie Owens (Super Street).
