NHRA: Rain wasn’t the only thing falling over the weekend at Maple Grove, as cool Northeast conditions made national records and career best performances a hot commodity at the Auto Plus NHRA Nationals. Delayed until Monday morning by rain, those who returned got their moneys worth, as Spencer Massey drove to the Top Fuel victory on a holeshot, downing Del Worsham’s 3.73 – the quickest pass in drag racing history – with a 3.77. Robert Hight clawed back into the Funny Car points chase with a victory over Johnny Gray, 4.06 to a tire-smoking 9.83, while Jason Line created a seemingly insurmountable lead in the Pro Stock point standings with a crushing performance, setting and then re-setting the national record at 6.47 seconds on his way to a dominant win. And Hector Arana Jr. used a career best 6.78 in the Pro Stock Motorcycle final to edge Matt Smith’s 6.79 in an incredible drag race for his second national event win.
