Here in Concord, NC at the Second Annual Nitto NMRA/NMCA All-Star Nationals there were some amazing performances and upsets at zMAX Dragway, which made for a seriously exciting race weekend.

Turbonetics Pro Outlaw 10.5 only had three entries, but put on quite the show. Mike Murillo took the number one spot with a 7.22, giving him the bye straight into the final round on Sunday. On the other side of the ladder, Dwayne James got a single when Conrad Scarry succumbed to engine problems and didn’t make the call. In the final, Murillo took the win light, 6.98 to 7.32.

ProCharger Super Street Outlaw action saw Sam Vincent shatter the record in qualifying, running a 7.262 – the quickest pass ever for the class – for the number one spot. In the semis, John Macdonald had the bye into the final while John Urist defeated Vincent on a holeshot in a wild side-by-side battle to meet Macdonald in the final. The final round ended before it started as Urist were .053 red, giving Macdonald the win.

DiabloSport EFI Renegade had a seven-car turnout, with Dan Rawls taking the top spot in qualifying with an 8.46. In the semis, Brian Mitchell went red, allowing Bart Tobener to advance to the final, while Chris Van Gilder defeated Dan Rawls on a shutdown pass. In the final Tobener got around Van Gilder’s holeshot to win, 8.56 to 8.89.

In Edelbrock Hot Street action, Don Bowles pushed his Maverick to an 8.63 for the top spot on Saturday. In eliminations, Bowles defeated Tim Eichorn to advance while Charlie Booze, Jr. got a pass when Rick Riccardi lit the red bulb by a mere .003 second. The final was a close race as the pair was neck and neck, with Bowles taking the win light by only .004 second.

BFGoodrich Tires Drag Radial was a dogfight all weekend, with Jason Lee coming out on top on Saturday with a 7.98 at 175 miles per hour. Lee advanced to the final round when Sean Lyon redlit in the semis to meet Chad Doyle who defeated Brian Tuten. Doyle spun hard on the hit, allowing Lee to streak to an 8.11-second class victory.

Steeda Real Street Presented by 5.0 Mustang Magazine Bruce Hemminger took the top spot with an impressive 9.433-second effort. In the semis defending-champion Tim Matherly had the bye run into the finals, while Hemminger had to defeat Jim Breese in the semis to meet Matherly. The final round was a non-event as Matherly broke a wheel and damaged the suspension on the previous bye run, allowing Hemminger to take the win unopposed.

The Eibach Spring Pure Street top qualifier was Shawn Johnson, driving Jim St.Charles record-setting car, posting a 10.12 for the pole. Brandon Alsept had the competition bye run into the final, while on the other side of the ladder, Johnson defeated Teddy Weaver, 10.17 to 10.34. In the final, Johnson lead from light to stripe, defeating Alsept, 10.16 to 10.24.

ACT Clutch Factory Stock Saw Jay Dold take top qualifier honors with an 11.19-second pass on Saturday. He was greeted with the first-available bye, which happened to put him into the final round. On the other side of the ladder was a huge upset as Carlos Sobrino defeated the three-time defending champ Tommy Godfrey, 11.26 to 11.48. The final round saw an incredibly close race, with the .001-second Margin Of Victory going to Sobrino for his first-ever win.

In Exedy Racing Clutch Modular Muscle, Randy Mounce qualified number one. In the final Gary “Hollywood” defeated Zak Harty.

Steeda Open Comp saw Saul Walker II qualify number one with a perfect .000 reaction time. In eliminations, Paul Lehman defeated Kenny Thomas in a double breakout run.

M.J. Smith took the number one spot in Detroit Locker Truck and Lighting on Saturday. On Sunday, Johnny Lighting defeated James Steamer for the win.

JDM Engineering Super Stang saw Lloyd Mikeska run a 12.030 on a 12.03 dial to take the win over J.A Coan.

The Second Annual Nitto NMRA/NMCA All Star Nationals held and the opulent zMAX Dragway in Concord, NC provided some great performances and amazing racing action all weekend long.

In Scorpion Performance Pro Street, Joe Dunne took top qualifier honors with a 6.21 at over 225 miles per hour. IN the final, it was Chris Rini and Troy Coughlin facing off. Coughlin blew the tires off, allowing Rini;s 6.43-second blast to take the win.

In Mickey Thompson Super Street 10.5, Frank Meshaw took the number one qualified spot with a 6.77 at 119 miles per hour. The semifinals were postponed, as Tony Nesbitt’s mother, Barb, was involved in an accident, and the other drivers in the semis asked to postpone their race until the next event, so that Tony could be with his family.

ARP Nostalgia Pro Street saw David Beeson take the top spot with a 7.29-second effort. In a tight side-by-side final round, Jeff Colletta defeated Kevin Parent, 7.43 to 7.48.

Vortech Xtreme Street was full of surprises, with Bill Trovato piloting his Starfire to an killer 7.99 at 171.99 miles per hour on Saturday. In eliminations, Jamie Stanton posted a perfect reaction time against Trovato in the final, and won on a holeshot victory.

Skip Baskin took the top spot in Comp Cams Pro Stock, with an 8.629-second pass. The final came down to Baskin and Greg Delaney, in which Delaney had to lift, while Baskin lit the boards with an 8.65 for the win.

Brad Schehr was the king of qualifying on BFGoodrich Tires Street Radial, Carding an 8.82 at 155 miles per hour. Schehr made it to the final round, where he took the win as Heath Shemwell went .002 red.

Drag Racer Magazine Mean Street racer Jeremy Gillam took the number one spot on the ladder going into eliminations with a 10.02 at 132 miles per hour. In the final, Gillam soundly defeated Mike Winters, 10.10 to 10.51.

In Indy Cylinder Heads Nostalgia Super Stock Dallas Schultz took the top honors, running 10.002 on his 10.00 index in qualifying. In the final, Doug Duell dispatched Steve Wilson in a stout holeshot victory.

Tony Miles rose to the top of FSC Nostalgia Muscle Car by running an 11.02 on his 11.00 index on Saturday. Miles made it to the final, but fell to Mike Clifford in a double breakout run.

Trick Flow Open Comp saw Rob Whitney’s .002 reaction time stand as the best in qualifying. In the final, it was Mark Young taking the win light when Mike Roup broke out on the top end.

Rick Ellison took the top honors in Eaton Posi Late Model EFI, with a .002-second light in qualifying. In the final, it was a Corvette showdown, as Edgar Perez and Jim Burford ran hard to the stripe in a double breakout, with Burford being the lesser offender.
