Von Smith and his Al-Anabi Racing teams’ double-up victory headlined the fourth round of the Arabian Drag Racing League at the Qatar Racing Club in Doha, Qatar, while Khalid Mohammed parlayed a record-breaking week on the track into his second victory of the six-race season in the Pro Nitrous category to join the American driver on the podium.
Smith, driving a pair of matching, Howard Moon-tuned Chevrolet Camaro’s, captured his first Pro Extreme victory of the winter season and did it with this driving talent behind the wheel, slapping a perfect light on Brandon Snider in the opening stanza to take a 3.59 to 3.56 holeshot win and then outpedaling Eric Dillard and his turbocharged Q80 Racing Camaro in the final for a 4.16 to 5.17 victory. The Oak Ridge, Tennesee native then made it two-for-two on the night — and back-to-back wins in the Pro Modified categry — as he followed up his victory in the legal Pro Mod class, defeating Khalil Alansari in the final, 3.80 to a 3.86.
Smith was ultra consistent during eliminations, posting a 3.81 on an opening round single and a 3.80 in the semifinals to dispose of Emad Aljassim, before adding the bracket car-like 3.80 in the final.
Khalid Mohammed, who made headlines on Wednesday when he and his Ekanoo Racing team laid down the quickest nitrous oxide-equipped doorslammer pass in history at 3.70-seconds, notched his second victory on the season, driving his Pat Musi-powered Camaro past Steve Jackson in a spectacular drag race, 3.71 at 202.58 MPH to a 3.73 at 199.43 MPH.
Kuwait native Abdulla Wahab Al-Saleem drove his Ford Mustang to victory in Outlaw 10.5, using a 4.20 at 186.61 MPH to easily handle fellow countryman Turki Al Humaidi in the money round. In 4.50 Index, Syria’s Fadi Tamour was first off the starting line, strapping an .017 to .033 holeshot on Hisham Al Mola, reaching the stripe first with a 4.516 to Al Mola’s closer-to-the-index 4.502.
In Super Street 8, Abdullah Al Shatti scored in his ’89 Ford Mustang when opponent Jassim Al Muqahwi red-lighted in his Chevy Corvette, taking a 4.37 to 4.33 win. American Chad Morgan took Super Street 6 honors, getting off the line first and powering his ’92 Toyota Supra to a 4.55 to easily handle the 4.67 posted by Mohd Haji and his Bahrain-based ’92 Nissan GTR.
Other winners of the fourth round of the Arabian Drag Racing League included Duaij Al Sabah (Dragster), Meshal Al Saber (Pro Bike), Yaqoub al Ali (Super Street Bike), and Mohd Bourashid (Street Bike).
