Shawn Langdon (Top Fuel), Tommy Johnson, Jr. (Funny Car), Jason Line (Pro Stock), and Mike Castellana (Pro Modified) were winners of the NHRA’s Thunder Valley Nationals at the Bristol Dragway in Tennessee on Sunday.

r3Tommy Johnson, Jr. scored his first Funny Car victory of the season Sunday at the Bristol Dragway, as he defeated teammate Matt Hagan on a holeshot in the final round, 4.038 to 4.030. Fellow DSR stablemate Shawn Langdon did likewise in Top Fuel, winning for the first time this season in his first final round appearance, ousting Tony Schumacher in another all-DSR finale, 3.83 to 3.93. In Pro Stock, the KB Racing juggernaut rolled through another event unbeaten, untied, and unscored upon, as Jason Line notched his sixth win of the year, defeating teammate Greg Anderson, 6.66 to 6.69, while Mike Castellana defeated Rob Rahaim in an all-nitrous final round in Pro Modified.

IHRA Presidents Cup Nationals

r4Cary Goforth dominated the IHRA’s visit to the Maryland International Raceway this weekend, as he ran the table in Pro Stock, qualifying number one and winning the race over Trevor Eman, assumng the points lead in the process. In Nitro Funny Car, Canadian Tim Boychuk defeated Mike McIntire, Jr. on a holeshot, 5.728 to a quicker 5.711, while Kevin McCurdy outlasted a stout field of Pro Modified entries to claim the hardware with a 6.03-second defeat of Mac McAdams in the finale.

NHRA Holley Hot Rod Reunion

r2California natives Adam Sorokin and Jim Murphy squared off in the Nostalgia Top Fuel final round at the Holley Hot Rod Reunion at the Beech Bend Raceway Park in Kentucky on Saturday night, with Sorokin thundering to victory with a 5.76 at 237 mph to a slowing 6.37. In the Classic AA/GS category, New Yorker Alan Borowski took an easy stroll to the win after opponent Brian Spotts encountered mechanical troubles, while Kentucky’s own Robbie Freels clicked off a 7.02 following opponent Steve Faller’s foul start to take the 7.0 Pro crown.

NHRA Division 5

r1Joey Severance powered his way from the number one qualifying spot to the Top Alcohol Dragster title at the NHRA West Central Division Lucas Oil Series event at the Bandimere Speedway in Denver, as he defeated Dean Dubbin in the money round, 5.47 to 5.79. Kris Hool, who entered eliminations in Top Alcohol Funny Car from the fourth spot in qualifying, motored through the field to take a 5.85 to 5.98 win over John Lombardo, Jr., while Don Thomas bettered Dennis Schmiedl on both ends of the racetrack to take the Competition Eliminator crown.
