Ask The Experts: Isky Racing Cams Is Listening!

Here at EngineLabs, we have interactions with the industry’s movers and shakers–and product designers–on a daily basis. And sometimes they offer us up an opportunity that simply can’t be ignored, such as the one we’re presenting to you today. Nolan Jamora, the Director of Research and Development over at Isky Racing Cams, has graciously extended the chance to share his knowledge and expertise with you, dear reader, in the form of a question-and-answer session.

Nolan has worked on championship-winning projects from Formula 1, NASCAR, Le Mans, Indy Car and many different classes of drag racing from professional racing down to the sportsman level, as well as OEM projects from Harley-Davidson to Porsche. He has been the head of research and development at Isky Racing Cams for the last 16 years, and has brought many innovations to the market as part of a team led by Ron Iskenderian, who was an early champion of the bushing roller lifter that was eventually granted two patents. Nolan was also an early believer in the Spintron for valvetrain development; Isky purchased the second one off the line to continue their push to develop new innovations in valvetrain components.

So now you know a little bit about Nolan. What Nolan wants to know, however, is what’s important to you. What do you feel an urgent need to know with respect to the engine’s camshaft and valvetrain? We are opening this up to YOU, EngineLabs reader.

Here is a list of topics that Nolan is prepared to cover via your questions:

  • The Bushing vs Needle bearing lifter
  • 4/7 & 2/3 swap cams
  • Loft
  • Harmonics
  • Ramps
  • The engine as one whole as opposed to separate pieces
  • Modern Cam Design
  • How lobe center changes really affect the engine
  • Vacuum Rule Cams
  • Cheater Cams
  • Parasitic Engine Drag effect of using certain components
  • Correct Break In for solid and roller cams
  • How to pick the right cam
  • What question a cam tech should be asking you before recommending a cam
  • Blower Cams
  • Turbo Cams
  • Nitrous Cams
  • Marine Cams

We’ll leave this open for three weeks and end the submission period Friday, September 8, 2017. Simply submit your questions to [email protected], and we’ll get them over to Nolan and present his responses as soon as possible. Let’s get this rolling!
