Cruising the halls of the PRI show, we found some bad ass new rods from San Clemente, CA, based Carrillo Industries.
Carillo is noted for having some of the toughest connecting rods in the industry. All Carrillo rods use a proprietary chrome, nickel, moly, and vanadium alloy for low weight and increased strength. This is a custom designed material, meeting the highest of standards. All Carrillo connecting rods are manufactured from an oversized forging that results in the proper grain flow as well as the surface imperfections that are generated by the forging process.
Using the same technology to produce the internals of NHRA Pro Stock champion Mike Edwards’ racer, Richard Batchelor told us that Carrillo has some new products for sportsmen racers. New Super Stock rods for the Chrysler Hemi and Ford FE big blocks are available in the popular Chevy 2.100” journal and rod bearing sizes.
Legal for Hemi Super Stock and Stock classes:
• .990 or .927 Wristpin with stock sized bearing.
• .927 Wristpin with Honda sized bearing. Also available for 440 Wedge.
Also new for 2010 is a new big-block Chevy connecting rod with Honda crank pin size, available in either .927 or .990 wrist pin. Productions on these are starting now and are waiting to be approved by NHRA. All of these new rods eliminate the need for running a bearing spacer for undersized cranks. These meet NHRA rules for 2% lighter than stock and the length is +/- .025 of stock.
