IMIS 2012: X-DRL Becomes Official, 2013 Series Schedule Revealed

The fledgling new X-Treme Drag Racing League unveiled its 2013 schedule today at the International Motorsports Industry Show at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, featuring stops at nine of the most prestigious race tracks in the nation. The new eighth-mile sanctioning body, which was conceived little more than a week ago by a trio of track operators and entrepreneurs including Jeff Mitchell, David Hubbard, and Larry Pearce, will boast nine exciting racing categories in heads-up and bracket competition.

“We’re excited to give fans a schedule like this and one that will feature action-packed racing at some of the premier tracks in the nation,” said Mitchell. “The enthusiasm from the tracks we’re working with has been incredible, and that’s given us a great deal of excitement for our inaugural season.”

The series will open its freshman season on April 6-7 (the only Saturday-Sunday event on the calendar) at the Osage Casino Tulsa Raceway Park in Tulsa, Okla. The series will then head to the historic Bristol Dragway on April 26-27, followed by the No Problem Raceway Park in Belle Rose, La. on May 17-18.

In June, the X-DRL will visit the Gateway Motorsports Park near St. Louis on the weekend of the 14-15th. On July 26-27, the tour will shift back East to the popular Maryland International Raceway in Mechanicsville, Md., followed by stops at the Dallas Raceway in Crandall, Tex. on Aug. 16-17, the Virginia Motorsports Park just outside Richmond on Sept. 20-21, Montgomery Motorsports Park in Montgomery, Ala. on Oct. 4-5, and concluding at Bruton Smith’s drag racing palace at zMAX Dragway in Concord, N.C. on Oct. 25-26.

The X-Treme Drag Racing League will showcase competition in Pro Extreme, Pro Nitrous, X-Treme Pro Stock, Pro Turbo, Pro Modified, Top Sportsman, Top Dragster, Pro Junior Dragster, and the SuperCar Showdown.

Series officials relayed to the media that an additional event may be forthcoming, along with further announcements regarding class rules, payouts, and the addition of series staff. All of this information and more will be made available to the racers and the fans over the next week when the X-DRL website is launched.
