The sport of drag racing is always well represented at the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) show in Indianapolis, with plenty of machines on hand to help manufacturers market their products. This year’s show is certainly no different, but the lineup inside the Indiana Convention Center illustrates the trend in popularity among the racing community toward street legal race cars and small-tire drag racing machines, along with the always-popular Pro Modified eliminator.
This time around, things have been inarguably dominated by the hit reality show Street Outlaws, with not one, but two of the programs’ top stars unveiling all-new rides to the world for the very first time. Justin “Big Chief” Shearer pulled the wraps off of his new 1968 Pontiac Firebird Pro Mod-style car to open the show on Thursday, followed shortly by “Daddy Dave” Comstock and his new ‘Goliath 2.0″ Chevy II. The world-famous ‘Dung Beetle,’ piloted by AZN and co-driver Farm Truck, as well as the Mustang of Chris “BoostedGT” Hamilton, and Kye Kelley’s world-beating Camaro are also capturing flocks of attendees.
Elsewhere, Mike Janis revealed his brand new Chevrolet Camaro Pro Modified machine this week, as did Team MMR with their yet-to-be-completed 2016 Ford Mustang. From the PDRA and NHRA ranks, to the factory race cars wars and even drag boat racing, there’s plenty here to satisfy the drag racing crowd. For those who couldn’t make it to Indianapolis this week, we’ve put together a gallery of many of the cars on display. Check it out, and enjoy!
