While we are all familiar with VP Racing Fuel’s Mad Scientist and the quest to develop the best racing fuels, many are not aware of VP’s research and development in Hi-Performance lubrication brand. The Hi-Performance line accompanies the Classic, and Traditional lines of lubrication already manufactured by the company. We stopped by the VP booth for a tour through the company’s line of lubricants with VP lubrication specialist Richard Glady.
“These are professional grade, fully synthetic racing lubricants that are designed to restore wear characteristics that were removed by the EPA regulations for street vehicles,” said Glady. By enhancing the friction control and wear protection, changing the chemistry of the products, VP claims to have improved the properties of their racing lubricants significantly.
According to Glady, the Hi-Performance lubricants are available in 0W-20, 5W-30, 10W-40, 15W-50, and 20W-50. All are manufactured to protect flat tappet and roller cams but the 15W-50 is specifically designed for tighter tolerance gasoline, ethanol, and methanol burning engines.
Glady also stated that the VP racing oils chemical formulation contained high levels of ZDDP to help provide the highest degree of wear protection.
VP Racing also manufactures a line of assembly lube, which is critical to prevent galling, or excessive wear during the critical break-in process. The assembly lube offers a level of pre-lube protection on initial start up to prevent wear. Glady reminded us that assembly lube was outstanding for rust and corrosion protection during assembly and shipment.
When it comes to break-in, VP offers their own brand of Break-In Oil, formulated with a conventional base stock oil with ZDDP, Moly, and other chemistry to allow a freshly machined engine to finish seating and mating of parts during the break-in process.
