SEMA 2013: Proform Designs Pink Engine Kit, Digital Shift Light

The Proform booth at SEMA is always a colorful experience.

Proform‘s new digital programmable shift light can be detached from its base to provide tuners with an added benefit.

“It can also be used as a diagnostic tachometer,” explains Booth Platt of Proform, which is a division of Specialty Auto Parts.

The shift light has a digital rpm readout on the top. Tuners and mechanics can detach the shift light and reposition it on the dash for easy viewing from the engine bay.

The Proform programmable shift light includes a digital tach for diagnostics.

“As long as you can see through the windshield, you can use it to help tune or adjust the engine,” says Platt. “But it’s not designed to be used as a tach during a race.”

The shift light features an easy 3-wire hookup and the display brightness is adjustable. Measuring only 4.25 inches long, it can be used with engines from 1-to-12 cylinders. The shift light itself is lit with three LEDs. All settings are adjustable with two buttons throughout a 100-to-12,000 rpm range.

This pink ZZ383 engine will be given away as part of a charity sweeptstakes. A limited number of identical engine dress-up kits will also be sold to help the charity.

Also in the Proform booth was the custom pink ZZ383 engine that will be given away as part of a fundraiser for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. The base ZZ383 engine is rated at 450 horsepower with 449 lb-ft peak torque. The iron block/aluminum head engine features 9.7:1 compression ratio, forged steel crank and hydraulic roller camshaft. It’s been outfitted with a Proform 750 cfm carburetor and unique pink dressup kit that includes a 14-inch air cleaner, timing cover and valve covers — all finished in bright pink. Other accessories include breather cap, oil filler cap and related hardware.

“We’ve made up 125 pink dress-up kits for sale,” adds Platt. “Once they’re sold, they’re gone. All the proceeds will go to the charity.”

For the racers, Proform is coming out with a 5000-pound wireless scale and ramp kit. It can be used to determine cross weight, side-to-side and front-to-rear.
