We came across this incredible ’70 Cutlass on eBay today, and it’s the kind of ride that makes us miss the old Pro Street days! It has a full Chromoly tube chassis built by C&F Race Cars, which is NHRA-certified to 6-seconds, and judging by the size of motor, it’ll need every bit of strength that chassis has.
The motor is a 612 cubic inch big block Chevy with 8.5-to-1 compression, has a Callies crank, Oliver rods, Ross pistons, and huge Dart heads all topped by a BDS 1671 blower and two 1500cfm carbs.
With 15lbs. of boost it was good for 1,408 horsepower on the dyno! All of that power is backed by a built Powerglide and sent to through 4.10 gears out back.
The rear suspension is a 4-link with QA1 double adjustable rear shocks, and the front end wears Morrison front street struts. Braking duties are handles by Wildood’s all the way round. This license plate says “In the 7’s,” and it’s more than legit as it’s run a 7.55 at 186 MPH!
While we fully realize that this baby is far out of reach of the average guy we do appreciate great builds when we see them. There’s nothing practical at all about something like this, and quite honestly, does it need to be?
It’s cars like this that inspire is to build our own cars. Sure, most of the cars that we build have more of a $2,000 budget versus a $200,000 one, but we’ll bet that you’re already planning out your own custom chassis right now. Go for it!
