Everything You Need To Know About Nitrous Oxide From Holley

Being around muscle cars and hot rods, the stories get around about the guy who left his bottle warmer on and blew chunks of his car through his garage wall, or the guy who stalled during a nitrous burnout and without proper training he turned the key and sent his intake manifold ballistic, straight through his hood. Some of these stories are enough to make many people shine off nitrous oxide for fear of destroying their muscle car or hot rod.

But it doesn’t have to be that way if you take the time to educate yourself on all the basics of adding nitrous to your engine. Thanks to Holley Performance and their series of videos on YouTube about the NOS systems, you can take the time to watch some videos and learn about nitrous the right way, and not from some guy down the block who read a couple posts on a forum.

The Pro Race fogger and the hidden NOS systems

Holley has been developing fuel systems since 1903 with over 250,000,000 carburetors produced over the years, so they know fuel and fuel systems. Holley Performance acquired NOS in the late 1990’s, and who better to educate you on the use of NOS than a company that has been around fuel systems for over a century?

Holley's new Crosshair nitrous kit

In Holley’s videos, you will learn everything from the basics, with their “Introduction to NOS” to more advanced videos regarding installation of dry and wet sump systems. If you’ve thought about adding a fogger system to your car and couldn’t decide whether to run a direct port or a plate install, all the installation tips and instructions are right there for you.

If you want to know how and where to mount your NOS bottle, that’s covered in their video series, too, as well as all the electrical wiring information to wire up your solenoids. These are very important videos for those of you who are looking to take that next step and up the horsepower of your ride, whether it’s on the street, or at the track.

Nitrous oxide has been used to enhance performance since World War II in piston-powered aircraft, according to Holley’s web site. But not until the late 1970’s did we see much success with it for automotive use when a couple of racers dabbled with nitrous oxide injection, and Nitrous Oxide Systems (NOS) was born. During much of their early years they were able to demonstrate that nitrous oxide was a safe and efficient form of increasing the power and performance of gasoline engines.

Holley's diesel NOS kit, and their plate kit

Drag racing’s pro mod class in the 1980’s boosted the popularity of NOS, and the first 200 mph run as well as the first 6-second pass were both aided by NOS. In 2001, when “The Fast and the Furious” hit the movie screen, NOS became a household name to anyone and everyone who was interested in performance enhancers for their cars.

With the increase in popularity and the need for more power, these videos from Holley Performance are a must see for anyone who is even thinking about NOS. You don’t have to be an engine builder to install and NOS system on your car, but you do have to know what you’re getting yourself into, and you do have to know the right way to install an NOS system. Whether you want a simple 100 shot or extreme race kits up to 500 horsepower, Holley Performance has your kit. Check out the NOS site to see all the kits available, but don’t forget to watch their videos and get an education about nitrous oxide before you install it yourself, you’ll be glad you did.
