Justin Cyrnek had one goal in mind when he set out to build his Gotta Have It Green 2013 Mustang – to have the quickest and fastest 5.0L Coyote-powered supercharged ‘Stang on the planet. Earlier this year, we told you all about the exploits of the “Green Goblin” at the NMRA’s 5.0 Shootout, where the car driven by Evolution Performance‘s Nelson Whitlock took home the cheese with an 8.46 at 163 MPH.
This weekend, in an attempt to close out the 2013 season with a bang, the Evolution team took the Goblin out one last time, to Cecil County Dragway in Maryland.
A 1.24 short time, 5.12 eighth-mile clocking, and incredible 7.92 at 173.56 MPH in the quarter-mile was the result, giving Evolution Performance and car owner Cyrnek the title of quickest and fastest 2011-14 supercharged Mustang GT in the world. Remember, folks, this is still a real street car that hasn’t been hacked to death.
7.90’s from a street car…how, you’d like to know? The engine in the car has been completely revamped by L&M Engines for the rigors of track duty, topped off by a set of CNC-ported cylinder heads and intake manifold from Slawko Racing Heads. The big push comes from the 4.5L Whipple Superchargers‘ twin-screw, liquid-cooled blower that displaces almost as much air as the engine itself and pushes 24 pounds of boost through the engine – topped off with a small squirt of giggle gas for a little extra motivation.
American Racing Headers, JLT, ATI Racing, Ford Racing Parts, Fore Innovations, Weldon Racing, and JRS Fabrication are all onboard in the project, with Evolution’s Fred Cook as the main architect to put together a package for Cyrnek that’s performed as advertised. With Jon Lund of Lund Racing working the tune through an SCT X3 hand-held flash tuner, they’ve done the unthinkable – and it appears as if there’s more on tap.
The Evolution team is not one to sit back and rest – we can only imagine what they’ve got planned for upgrades on the Green Goblin for this winter. Whatever it is, we’ll keep you posted!
