Ferrea Racing Components Give Us Vital Valvetrain Tech Tips

Valvetrains can be a very confusing, but vital part of your engine’s performance. Our friends at Ferrea Racing Components understand how crucial your valvetrain is and thanks to their tech tips page, are educating gearheads across America. Ferra offer 11 simple tips and pieces of advice on their website to help you maximize the performance of your motor by learning what kind of valve shape, design, and materials you need in your motor.

Common thinking in the performance business is lighter is better, and in your valve train Ferrea explains on this page how this is especially true.  Ferrea offers valves made of exclusive Super Alloy materials that is not only lighter, but also offers superior heat resistance.  In addition to the Super Alloy materials, Ferrea also has a great offering of titanium valves.  Ferrea manufactures the titanium valves by using a special high temperature titanium alloy with silicon and is usually considered an upgrade by many other companies.  For lightweight options for a more traditional material, steel, they offer a lightweight hollow valve stem for an approximate weight savings of 20 percent.

Another piece of information that Ferrea explains is their Super-Flo valves, (which is often referred to as under-cut or neck down) that reduces the stem diameter in the port area. The Super-Flow valves work to maximize flow without an ill effect on the reliability of the motor.  Ferrea has conducted many tests to reach the most efficient combination for their Super-Flow valves.

Part of maximizing  your budget is maximizing the reliability of your motor.  Ferrea helps you with this by continuously working with new materials that will better resist thermal fatigue. Ferrea explains that your motor can see up to 1600ºF in the combustion chamber that will expose the valves to some of that intense heat.  For more of their tech tips visit http://www.ferrea.com/tech_tips.php
