After posting some photos of his ’68 Pontiac Firebird convertible restoration project, a Pro-Touring.com forum member is finding he’s not the only Firebird ‘vert owner in Tampa.
The former lurker posted his photos earlier this month, showing what started as a rotisserie restoration and now appears to be out of the paint shop with a slick black coating.
The work done on this ‘Bird was not trivial. New floors and rear quarters were needed, as well as a tail light panel. The engine build appears to be a work of love, with a Pontiac 461 stroker sitting between the rails and dressed to the nines.
The car was going to receive a Hotchkis TVS suspension, 4-wheels discs and 18-inch wheels all around. The tire fitment is staggered, with 235/40R18s on the front and 275/40R18 out back. Just looking at the photo outside the paint shop, you can tell that his is going to be one mean ‘Bird.
Custom interior work is yet to come and the owner has indicated that he’s got a pair of BMW 3-series seats to start that portion with. Of course, there’s still a few more details to be filled in here and there, but this project is well on its way and we don’t think it will be too long before this project will be joining the other classic Firebirds in Tampa for a cruise.
There are more photos and details over on Pro-Touring.com. If you’re near the Tampa area and have a classic Firebird, you might want to chime in and join the Firebird happiness going on there.
