If there’s one thing the high-performance vehicle crowd is really good at its finding ways to overpower the stock parts that come on a classic car with a massive amount of horsepower. The suspension of muscle cars and other classics wasn’t meant to deal with the power output today’s engines are capable of. To help owners put their power down Classic Performance Products now has their new Street-Trac traction bars for vehicles with leaf spring suspensions.
The crux of the problem for many stock suspension cars that use leaf springs is the traction issues that can arise from high-powered engine combinations. Racers and high-performance enthusiasts have tried different homemade tricks to help the leaf springs harness the power, but they never get the job done right. The Classic Performance Products Street-Trac bars are an engineered solution to help optimize power application.
How do you build a traction bar that can deal with big power and provide great performance? To address this question Classic Performance Products started with some 1”, 0.156 wall 4130 steel that uses 3 /16” bent steel mounts that have been laser cut. A D-type busing that’s self-lubricating and mated to a 3 /4” rod end rounds out the rear part of the Street-Trac unit.
Up front, the mount has additional ground clearance and a forward facing approach angle to help the vehicle get over possible obstacles if they’re encountered. Finally, Classic Performance Products made sure to add a flat surface for the linkage that engages the leaf spring to help reduce the stress put on it, along with a relocated pivot position to provide better weight transfer.
