J.D. Campbell Wants To Rule At The Outlaw Street Car Reunion

J.D. Campbell is a determined individual that has clawed his way into the top tier of X275 racers behind the wheel of his immaculate 1968 Camaro. After a slew of winter updates, Campbell is ready to continue his assault on the X275 class in 2019, and the Outlaw Street Car Reunion IV is his next stop. Campbell has high hopes to qualify well and land in the winner circle at Beech Bend Raceway at the OSCR IV.

Campbell’s 2018 campaign ended on a very high note after several local wins at X275 events and a runner-up finish at No Mercy 9 in the Outlaw 632 class. If you want to stay on top in the X275 world you always have to be working on your program so Campbell went into the offseason with a plan. After working with Brad Morgan from Reher-Morrison Racing Engines, some big changes were made to Campbell’s engine package to step up the performance in the new year.

“After last year’s success we wanted to go even faster, so Brad helped us map out a plan. At Lights Out 10 we ended up going a 4.37 and were very happy with that but there were some issues. We noticed that a byproduct of the upgrades was water moving around under the heads. I stayed up all night back-to-back days to fix the issue at the track. Ultimately, there wasn’t a fix that could be done at the track so we went home, but we went home happy knowing how fast the car was,” Campbell says.

When Campbell returned to Texas he sent his engine to Reher-Morrison to get the cylinder head issue fixed properly. Morgan and his team got to work and sent Campbell back a repaired engine that was ready for some X275 action. With a fresh bullet in the chamber, Campbell went to the first Mid-West Pro Mod Series event to see what the true potential of his new engine was.

“Reher got the engine totally straightened out so we went to the Mid-West Pro Mod race with the new setup and did well. The car was already on rails at Lights Out 10 so we decided to really get after it on the tune-up side of things. In the semi-finals, it went 4.362 and that was a huge goal of mine to go that fast and set the X275 nitrous small-block record. Just being able to run as quick as Ron Rhodes is a huge accomplishment for us,” Campbell explains.

The Outlaw Street Car Reunion has been a staple on Campbell’s racing calendar each year. Coming to Bowling Green to battle it out with the best in X275 is just part of what makes this event so special for him. He has some big goals for the OSCR IV and is ready to make his mark on the X275 class.

“We’re pumped up for the Outlaw Street Car Reunion this year. The car is in perfect shape and ready to run fast. My dad’s side of the family is from Kentucky so it’s sentimental to us to go up there. We ran one of our personal bests at the OSCR so we know the track will be on-point. The organization is great and it’s one of the big races on our list for the year. If the weather cooperates it will be a fast race,” Campbell says.

J.D. Campbell and the rest of the X275 class are going to put on a great show at the Outlaw Street Car Reunion VI. All the racing from Beech Bend Raceway will be shown live RIGHT HERE on SpeedVideo.com April 10-13. This broadcast is brought to you by presenting sponsor COMP Cams along with Edelbrock, Classic Instruments, Atomizer Fuel Injectors, ProCharger, SCT, LME, Race Winning Brands, and Howards Cams.
