Andrew Dickson from Mark Williams Enterprises explains why an 11-inch rearend can take more abuse than other rearend housings.

“Even though the 11-inch rearend is a little heavier than a 9-inch rear, it makes up for it in reliability as well as some friction advantages. The nature of a larger gear means less friction where the teeth contact — this is part of the reason the gears last longer: they’re under less stress.
