After spending the winter in Qatar participating in the Arabian Drag Racing League, Mike Janis is back in the United States and ready to begin his quest for another NHRA Pro Modified championship. For Janis, that journey will begin at the World Doorslammer Nationals presented by CTech Manufacturing where he will chase the $50,000 payday at one of the biggest Pro Mod races of the year.

The time Janis and his team spent 7,000 miles away in Qatar was worth the effort. All of the team’s gear is now back in the United States and that’s helped expedite the process of getting caught up with making updates to the car for the NHRA season.

Janis believes what the team learned while racing in the Arabian Drag Racing League will help them get a fast start to the NHRA season and perform well at the World Doorslammer Nationals.

“I feel like we have a really good car and we learned a lot racing overseas again. When the track over there was closest to NHRA to conditions we were the fastest car, hands down. So for our NHRA package, we learned a lot and will have a good shot at making a run for the championship again — it will also help us at this event because there’s going to be a lot of fast cars there,” Janis says.

Before the team starts its NHRA campaign, the World Doorslammer Nationals are directly in its sights. Janis knows he has his work cut out for him to get his car ready, however, he also understands how big this race is and what it’s going to take to win.

“I think it’s an absolutely amazing event with the effort that Richard and Wes are putting into it. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: I believe that Pro Mod is the biggest class in the world…other classes don’t compare in the numbers department to Pro Mod in how many cars are out there. It’s great that people will get to see Pro Mod and Pro Stock together at a race like this, it will just drive the point home even more how awesome doorcar racing is right now,” Janis explains.

As the Janis prepares his car for the NHRA season and the World Doorslammer Nationals he’s also working on getting his mindset ready. Coming into an event like the World Doorslammer Nationals takes extra preparation because the level of competition will be high as soon as qualifying begins.

“We’re looking forward to seeing a big car count at this race and a lot of fans in the stands. Wes does a great job promoting everything he does and I think it will draw a lot of people in because it’s doorslammer country there. We’re going to be in full race-mode and have the goal of winning the $50,000 prize as soon as we roll into the track. There’s a lot of hype around this race and there’s actually less pressure since it’s not for points, but there’s still a lot of money on the line, so you need to be ready,” Janis states.
