The new look for the NHRA Pro Stock Camaro SS.

The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Pro Stock Camaro SS is sporting a brand new look for 2017. While GM claims this new body style pays tribute to the championship-winning fifth-gen, it is ultimately modernized and styled after the new aggressive sixth-gen Camaro SS.

Chevrolet Pro Stock drivers won 23 out of 24 events during the 2016 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series. Jason Line from Ken Black Racing won eight events in his Summit Racing Camaro, then went on to win his third world title and third championship in a row for Chevrolet. Chevrolet driver and four-time world champion, Greg Anderson, also also won eight events in his Summit Camaro SS.

“Our goal was to minimize aerodynamic drag within the NHRA guidelines and incorporate as many design cues from the production car,” said John Mack, Chevrolet Camaro exterior design manager. “The result is a sleeker and more aerodynamic Camaro SS.”

The new 2017 Pro Stock Camaro SS design recently debuted at the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Show in Indianapolis, but will ultimately be put to the test before the end of the month. It will finally be competing starting in February at the 57th annual NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, California. This new SS will join the new 2017 COPO Camaro program at NHRA events as well, which means it will also be competing in the Stock Eliminator production-based drag racing class.
