What do drag racers do to get there racing fix in the middle of the winter when the tracks are closed? Get together and have a Practice Tree Race. Racers go head to head with each other to see who has the better reaction time on the practice tree. It is a great way for racers to get together, hang out and have a good time. Of course, like drag racing, it can get very competitive. You put money up to enter each race that you would like to compete in. Most event have some big money races and some low entry fee races. With big money races, you can see payouts up into the thousands of dollars.
For pairing, racers names are usually pulled out of a hat. How’s that for random paring! It’s usually a best out of three. If you beat the other guy or girl, you move on to the next round. They usually have 2 or 3 different classes. Full tree with a top or bottom bulb class and maybe a pro tree class. Some put racers on a ladder after a certain round. If your good on the tree, you might even take home a nice big check in the middle of winter. So if you want to get together and party with some racing buddies, warm up your thumbs, and look for a race in your area. The liquid refreshment tends to flow rather well at these events. They have had one in the northeast, one in the midwest called “Thumbwars” and also one in Ohio that has been around for many years. Stay warm and have fun!
