Video: Corvette-Shaped Funny Car Fights The Icy Streets In Norway

When funny cars first arrived on the drag racing scene in the 1960s, they were so described because of their altered wheelbases that shifted the rear wheels more to the front, in an effort to gain more traction as the cars launched. In doing so, the stock look gave way to a “funny” one, and the name stuck.

C4funnycar_2Across the Atlantic, we see the craze is still alive and well, at least for our Scandinavian neighbors. The Nordic folks have always had an abiding love for V8s and their usage in motorsports, and it’s led to some very amusing online snippets such as the one we have here.

To start off, the video is from YouTube user AVAsteffmeister182, and it offers us a hilarious glimpse into the everyday ordeal of navigating slippery winter roads. This one happens to take place in the town of Oltedal, which lies some 300-plus miles to the southwest of Norway’s capital, Oslo.

Coming in at just under a minute, we’re treated to an odd clip of a funny car living up to its name in a wholly different fashion. Meandering across an open stretch of road, the driver attempts to get the vehicle to line up straight several times as he makes his way down, but the racing slicks and ice get along as terribly as you might expect.

Several times throughout the video, we hear the engine being gunned over and over as the driver does his best to keep the rear in agreement with the front. The punch line comes right at the 0:40 mark, as it appears the Corvette goes to make a left turn, only to kick out a full 270 degrees and wind up pointing the wrong direction.

Whether under its own power or behind a tow truck, we hope the car and its driver wound up wherever it was they were trying to go. At the very least, it made him late to the Christmas dinner this year, it seems.
