dignighrlead2

One of the most unique drag races ever held is going down in Houston, Texas this weekend as the top grudge racers from around the country converge on the NRG Stadium, home to the NFL’s Houston Texans, for a one-of-kind no prep race. Big and small-tire racers will be vying for cold, hard cash in a winner-take-all throwdown on a closed, public roadway right in the heart of America’s fourth largest city, and as always, we’ll be bringing you all the behind-the-scenes action. A special thanks to our presenting sponsor, Fuel Air Spark Technology, who make our coverage possible!

Friday- Outlaw Street and True Street

A parade of True Street cars queue up to take their run at the course that has one purpose, to stress the limits of their “street cars.”

Only portions of this track being comprised of concrete, it will be interesting to see how a transfer from asphalt to concrete effects each racers setup.

CornFed 2.0, a Texas native, is no stranger to the No-Prep and street racing events in the Southern states. This twin-turbo entry plans to take the entire small-tire field by storm, come tomorrow.

Bobby Underwood’s turbo’d Coyote-powered Lincoln Mark VIII may not have the aggressive body lines of the other cars on the property, but it is one of the quickest ford-powered vehicles on the property.

Things are about to get underway as the Outlaw Street and True Street competitors draw names to get their first round matchups, after the drivers meeting.

A True Street entry that gives a twist to the field is the straight-axle '63 Chevy Nova of Billy Rains. Usually, you would catch him running in a Nostalgia 7.00-index class, but No-Prep racing has completely caught Rains' attention. Despite the fact that he hasn't yet his purpose built small-tire Chevy Luv he made sure he was in the thick of things this weekend, by throwing a single kit on top of the Nova's 406ci powerhouse.

After an intense set of rounds in Outlaw Street, “Mustang” Billy Ryal and his small-block Ford-powered Mustang lined up in the finals against the 4th-gen Camaro of Daniel Stone. This round proved to be more exciting than any other development at Dig Night thus far. With “Mustang” Billy narrowly edged out the Stone’s nitrous-huffing ride by a mere car length, letting him walk away with top honors in Outlaw Street.

Street Outlaws New Orleans very own Travis Santa Cruz was in attendance for the first night of Dig Night. He may not have run his iconic Black Ops Camaro today, but he still managed to make his presence know on the track after crewing for another DigNight racer.

The finals of True Street saw the LS-powered Craigslist Killer Fox body of Tyler Wilmoth was pitted against the '91 IROC of Brian Sanger. Like the Outlaw Street final, this was nitrous against nitrous action culminating in Sanger losing traction just feet before the finish line. While the Craigslist Killer sailed through the finish line and took home the victory, Brian fought the steering wheel keep his beloved IROC off the barriers. Thankfully, no part of his vehicle came in contact with any other car or wall, but it most certainly sent every fan to their feet! Make sure to check back tomorrow for both big and small-tire classes.

This nasty little daily-driver that embodies the essence of the True Street class. Keeping to this kind of mindset, Mireles confidently drove his Cadilac CTSV into this one-of-a-kind event. A reliable, yet potent, 408ci LS-powerplant that sits between the frame rails and manages to pump out an enthralling 750 hp on the factory blower, with the added option to crank on the nitrous to push it well over the 1,000 horsepower threshold.

“The CTSV is capable of running into the 10-second zone without the relying on the nitrous, I’m eager to see how I stack up against the rest of the field,” Mireles explained to us.

Saturday- Big and Small-Tire

Street racer Johnny “Quick” Kramer made the long haul from Detroit, Michigan to line up against the biggest and best Texas has to offer. With aims to take the top prize in Big Tire, Johnny brought out his “small-block 302” New-edge Mustang to shake up the field. The addition of 4 Nitrous Express kits should help him accomplish just that.

Mississippi street racer Harrell Coulter and his LSX-powered Hatchback Fox-body are here in force. He’s going to have his hands full in the first round of Small Tire after being called out by Texas native Ryan Hall, who plans to head into the final round of DigNight with his 1st-gen Camaro “Roxie.”

Coverage has Been Canceled

It is with great disappointment that we must inform you that our media team has been asked to leave the racetrack/premises due to unforeseen circumstances.

We are deeply sorry to not be able to cover further the DigNight at NRG Street Race. We know this event was very important to our viewers, the racers, (and sponsors) and we offer our deepest regrets on the situation at hand. Our next event will be Match Race Madness at Barona Raceway July 9.
