Sunday followed suit with great weather for the final day of racing in Orlando this weekend. Thanks to the the folks at Fuel Air Spark Technology, Dragzine will be in the house to bring you all the action, the news, notes, results, and photos!
Heavy Street saw Joseph Hatfill easily advance to round two to meet Devin Yankey who faced a close match with Chris Brown’s GTO, winning with an 8.16 over Brown’s 8.17. Both Pro Fab cars also made it through where they faced off with each other. Justin Jordan in the TT MPR built Coyote vs Tim Hafke’s Schmidt Racing Engines nitrous huffing big Chevy.
Jordan would get the win in a close match with a 7.52 to Hafke’s personal best 7.66. Gino Bia earned a win on reaction time over Felix Garcia who had some trouble on the line. His best of weekend 7.21 at 202 took a hard loos to Bia’s 7.83 at 178 MPH. Charles Hull, Rick Prospiero and John Townsend moved on tow round two as well.
Round one of Pro Mod saw Kevin Fiscus and Adam Flamholc have single runs and advance. Canadian racer Wes Goodard put a .007 light on Kristian Nystrom and scoring a win with a 5.94 at 251. Nystrom didn’t get a clean run and slowed to a 7.54.
Janis advanced with a 6.03 and woul face Glidden in round two who had lane choice after his hole shot win over Jeff Lutz. A .002 light and 5.99 at 227 beat the worlds fastest street cars 5.97 at 248.
Going into the semi finals Flamholc was paired with Mike Janis scoring a .007 light against the American veteran racer. The ET’s were identical at the 330 mark with the cars basically locked together, side by side down track. The boards lit up for Flamholc with the winning 5.823 at 244.78 to Janis’ 5.822 at 244.92 MPH, a .0311 margin of victory.
In Outlaw X 632 round one action Mike Murphy and Mike Schmidt had a close race with just .002 ET separating difference and Schmidt coming away with the hole shot win to face Troy Blake in round two. Robert Sellers had a single over a missing Dillon Voss and Jim Aldus going 4.74 at 151 over Alex Padilla. Bobby Hollingsworth, John Pluchino and John Tyler also advanced to round two. Blake moved on to the semi finals over Schmidt to face Robert Sellers in one of the Ensslin Racing entries.
Limited Drag Radial had eight cars in the new class this weekend with Frank Mewshaw and Don Lamana the top two qualifiers. Broken cars was the order of the day for this class with three racers missing round one sending Mewshaw, Prospero and Lamana to the semis uncontested. Tony Ridenour faced off with Scott Husted with both racers have traction issues. Ridenour would advance to meet Lamana who took the win with a 4.54 at 168 to a 4.71 at 174 MPH and a date with Frank Mewshaw in the final.
Chris Lancaster came out swinging setting low ET in round one with a 4.87 over Ken Pellicciotti’s 66 Nova. Clifford Connolly met with number eight qualifier Walter Drakeford taking a hole shot win with a .040 reaction to Drakeford’s .090., 4.998 over a 4.983.
Brian Keep advanced to round two to meet up with Troy Pirez who would move on to the semi finals. Tony Alm and Ari Birchfield advanced to face each other in round two. Birchfield earned the win on the tree.
Charles Hull had the earned bye as top qualifier in Street Outlaw putting up a 4.55 at 168 MPH. He would face Kirk Hatley in round two. Eric Leeper put a 4.82 at agaisnt Kenny Anderson scoring a win and a bye to the semi finals.
Dean Vallese advanced over Danny Hanchen to face off with Robert Friend who upset Eric Kenward who slowed to a 5.91, Freidns 5.69 won the round. Vallese would advance to the finals on a semi final bye to face Charles Hull who took out Eric Leeper onhis side of the ladder. One there Vallese was outgunned by Hull’s turbocharged Mustang with Hull earning the event win.
Outlaw 10.5 vs Pro Drag Radial ran separately till the finals with six cars in each class. John Carinci showed he meant business on his first round single 4.065 at 192 as Phil Sliskovic was a no show giving Carinci a bye to the finals. Spencer Hyde rolled a 4.36 against Alex Ramirez advancing to meet Wild Bill Devine’s stick shifted Bullsye Turbo Mustang. Hyde took a hole shot win over Devine meeting the finals with fellow Canadian racer Johnny Carinci who would advance to meet with Jeff Miller, the winner of the radial side of the ladder.
For his efforts Miller rolled out to a 4.12 to beat Ziff Hudson off pace 4.30 in round one. Bill Mitchell scored a 3.98 at 192 in his round one win over Nate Miskulin. He would have a semi final bye before meeting his fate against Miller.
