BARTONE, DENSHAM LAST MEN STANDING AT FAMED MARCH MEET

Tony Bartone kept his long win streak going in Nostalgia Top Fuel and second-generation racer Steven Densham collected Nostalgia Funny Car honors on Sunday at the famed March Meet at Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield.

r3Tony Bartone, whose winning streak in Nostalgia Top Fuel stretches back through the 2014 season, continued his domination of the class at the famed March Meet on Sunday, parlaying his No. 1 qualifying effort and a string of 5.5-second runs into a victory over Adam Sorokin. 5.53 to 5.79. In Nostalgia Funny Car, second-generation racer Steven Densham outlasted a field of 31 cars to win the March Meet for the first time, ousting Kris Krabill with a stellar 5.69 in the money round. And Dan Hix won the Fuel Altered division for the second time in as many years with a 6.44-second single in the final when his opponent, Jeremy Sullivan, could not make the call. Other heads-up winners included Scott Parks in Junior Fuel and Darrell Waters in A/Fuel.

NMRA Spring Break Shootout

r2After unleashing a career best 6.86 in qualifying, defending Street Outlaw class champion John Urist marched to victory lane Sunday at the NMRA’s season opening Spring Break Shootout at the Bradenton Motorsports Park, defeating Phil Hines with a quick 6.90. Frank Varela also ran the table in Renegade, qualifying atop the field with a 7.72 and defeating Brian Devilbiss in the final, 7.79 to a 7.99. Johnny Lightning and Steve Gifford took Coyote Modified and Coyote Stock honors, respectively, while Teddy Weaver claimed Pure Street with a 9.77 to 9.92 win over Jimmy Wilson.

NHRA Division 2

r1The NHRA’s Southeast division reached the mid-point of its season over the weekend at the Auto-Plus Raceway in Gainesville, where John Frech led the winners list with his victory in Competition Eliminator in his F/Dragster, defeating a foul-starting Randy Daniels in the final. Steve Furr won Top Dragster, edging out Robert Houston with a great .005 reaction time and 7.11 on his 7.05 dial. In Top Sportsman, Jeffrey Barker defeated Dylan Stott by a scant .002-seconds, while Mark Nowicki made the Super Stock final nearly as close, edging Byron Worner by just .006-seconds for the win.
