Race Report: NHRA At Norwalk, NMCA, LSX Shootout At Indy, And More!

LANGDON, CAPPS, LINE, KRAWIEC CAPTURE SUMMIT NATIONALS TITLES

Shawn Langdon (Top Fuel), Ron Capps (Funny Car), Jason Line (Pro Stock), and Eddie Krawiec (Pro Stock Motorcycle) were winners of the NHRA’s Summit Racing Equipment Nationals at the Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk on Sunday.

rc3Ron Capps continued his mid-season dominance of the Funny Car category on Sunday at the Summit Racing Equipment Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio, as he captured his fourth victory of the season in five final round appearances with a defeat of Courtney Force, 3.95 to 4.01. All told, Capps, won three of the four races during the four-race stretch that concluded in Norwalk. In Top Fuel, Capps’ DSR teammate Shawn Langdon won for the second time in as many weeks, defeating J.R. Todd by a 3.84 to 3.93 count, while Jason Line notched his seventh win of the season over teammate Greg Anderson, 6.67 to 6.71. And in Pro Stock Motorcycle, Eddie Krawiec overcame one of the more interesting weekends of his racing career, as he put his Harley-Davidson in the sandtrap twice (including the final round) during his trip to victory lane. In that final, Krawiec defeated his teammate, Andrew Hines, 6.92 to 6.93, after identical .019 reaction times, to score his third win of the season.

NMCA All-American Nationals

PrintIn a battle of Camaro’s, Billy Banaka drove away from former class champion Steve Summers for the Xtreme Pro Mod crown at the NMCA All-American Nationals at the Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, taking a 3.91 to 3.99 victory. In Street Outlaw, Jacky McCarty drove from the top qualifying spot to victory, defeating Phil Hines in the final, 4.43 to 4.56. In Radial Wars, DeWayne Mills assumed the points lead with a 3.94 to 3.99 final round ouster of Keith Berry, while Chuck Watson pushed his Ford Mustang to the Factory Super Cars title with a narrow 8.54 to 8.56 defeat of Clay Arnett.

Chevrolet Performance LSX Shootout

15GTCB00345_4C_no_tag_posIn addition to the NMCA categories, the Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series was also in action at the Lucas Oil Raceway over the weekend, featuring competition in a number of heads-up and index eliminators. Anthony Manna led the way with his victory in LSX Drag Radial, as he used a 4.55-second lap in the final to defeat an up-in-smoke Mark Carlyle. In EFI Real Street, Camren Massengale used an 8.13 to dispose of George Toll and his 8.40 in the finale, while Glenn Pushis took Chevrolet Performance Stock honors with a 10.44 to defeat Kevin Lumsden.

IHRA Mopar Canadian Nationals

rc4Following a pair of runner-up finishes, Aruba native Trevor Eman scored the first IHRA Pro Stock victory of his career at the Grand Bend Motorplex in Brand Bend, Ontario, Canada, as he downed J.R. Carr in the final round, 6.41 to 6.48. In Nitro Funny Car, reigning event champion Mark Sanders cruised to victory with a 5.72-second lap after opponent Jason Rupert broke on the starting line and was unable to face Sanders for the title. In Pro Mod, Kentucky’s Billy Harper drove his nitrous-fed Dodge Viper to the winner’s circle with a 5.98-second rout of Bruce Boland, while Jay Turner stormed to a 6.37-second defeat of Tracy Kile for the Nitro Motorcycle title. The event also saw a contingent of Top Fuel Dragsters competing on the 1/4-mile, with veteran Todd Paton taking the crown based on his 4.85-second low elapsed time.
