Steve King Reigns Supreme At The World Series Of Pro Mod

Pro Modified racing has always captured the attention of fans and drawn in top-tier competitors who want to tame these doorslammers. The World Series of Pro Mod (WSOPM) has brought things to a new level and has the added bonus of being the final race of the Winter Series at Bradenton Motorsports Park (BMP). Steve King earned his WSOPM title the hard way as he etched his name into history.

The 2025 WSOPM was dripping with ripe storylines thanks to the tight Winter Series points battle that needed to be settled, and the sheer number of cars on the property that were ready to throw down for the $150,000 purse. Over 80 Pro Mods weighed in and were ready to wrestle for the WSOPM title, which made qualifying for the field a challenge. When the dust settled, Mark Micke notched his 13th-straight number-one qualifying spot with a 3.575 blast at 223.65 mph.

Once racing started, everyone at BMP was watching Ken Quartuccio. There was a defined path that Quartuccio needed to walk to lock up the Winter Series overall points title. After his second-round win, the Winter Series title belonged to Quartuccio. When you add this to his Lights Out 16 win, it’s easy to see why Quartuccio is one of the hottest doorslammer racers around.

The WSOPM seems to have several Cinderella stories each year, and one of those stories always finds their way to the winner’s circle. This year, Steve King was Cinderella and the racing shoe fit him perfectly. King battled mechanical issues during the event, but his team never gave up and pushed their way to the final round. King’s reward for making the final? A matchup with multi-time NHRA Pro Mod champ Stevie “Fast” Jackson. King’s 3.629 pass was enough to beat Jackson’s 3.653 and win the WSOPM title along with $150,000.

There were a lot of drivers who didn’t make the 32-car main field at the WSOPM, but they still were given a chance to run for $10,000 in the second chance race. The second chance race was set up as a Chicago-style shootout where every racer who made it to the lanes got a crack at the track. The four quickest elapsed times received an invite back to run again to set the final. Roderjan Busato defeated Zach Sackman in the second chance final and brought home the $10,000.

The Pro 10.5 class featured a great mix of cars and combinations. There were plenty of PDRA Pro Street racers who made the trip to BMP, plus a few teams that normally don’t run on slicks that were all in the mix. In the final, veteran heads-up racer Chris Tuten lined up against young gun Ethan Steading. Tuten grabbed a nice starting line advantage, but Steading came out on top with a 3.934 to best Tuten’s 4.104.

Pro Mods weren’t the only quick big tire cars at the WSOPM, there was a full field of Mountain Motor Pro Stock racers in attendance racing for $25,000. There were some heavy hitters and new faces in the Mountain Motor Pro Stock class and it made for some great action. In the final, two-time PDRA Extreme Pro Stock and 2024 NHRA Mountain Motor Pro Stock champion Johnny Pluchino faced a surging Derrick Reese. Pluchino dropped the clutch first by .003 seconds and rode that to a 4.081 to Reese’s 4.125, thus sealing the win.

Ronnie Proctor smashed his way through a tough Top Sportsman class to win the WSOPM and a $50,000 purse. In an absolutely wild Top Dragster final, Hailey Hawkins picked up the win after Lucas Salemi experienced engine failure, and Hawkins’ team had to replace a fuse in her car on the starting line so she could take the tree. Tom Gunner raced his way to the Lil Gangstas’ class win. In the Super Pro Shootout, David Braskett scored the victory.
