Video: Bobby Dodrill’s Misery Continues With Crossville Crash

They say the road less traveled is often fraught with barricades, bumps, and uncharted terrain, and for Florida’s Bobby Dodrill, it has been precisely that during his many years of campaigning his truly unique supercharged, four-wheel-drive Chevrolet pickup.

Dodrill’s Miss Misery truck, without question one of the wildest creations in Outlaw 10.5 racing or any other classification in the sport, is an exercise in ingenuity, as Dodrill operates the truck without the assistance of shared or previously-gathered data and parts from others with comparable combinations. And that fact has placed its fair share of hurdles in his way; nevermind that luck has seemingly been his adversary.

Constructed some decade ago, Dodrill experienced his first major setback in 2011 when he crashed the square-body C10 in Georgia; he spent a number of years rebuilding it in his garage and got it back on track, but parked it yet again to re-work the chassis, driveline, and engine combination in an effort to improve its performance and reliability.

With all of that work in the rearview mirror, Dodrill circled a test session at Tennessee’s newly-renovated Crossville Dragway to shake down the new and improved Miss Misery. Unfortunately for Dodrill, it was only misery that he got. On the first attempt at the track, Dodrill launched and immediately spun the truck around, slamming nose and driver’s side first into the concrete barrier — believed to be result of mechanical breakage in the driveline. Fortunately for Dodrill, the impact was at low-speed and caused him no physical harm, but it still did a number on the truck he’s just poured his heart, soul, and billfold into.

Following the incident, Dodrill was hesitant to suggest that he would definitely be back from this one, but quickly warmed up to the idea, telling his fans this setback would be by no means stop him. In the days since, sponsors and supporters of the world’s quickest all-wheel-drive vehicle have overwhelmed Dodrill, and images on social media have shown significant progress already in repairing and rebuilding the pickup in an effort to return far quicker than he did in the last incident.
