Radial Madness: Quartuccio, Hall, Mewshaw Tame Lights Out 13

The eyes of the radial racing world were focused on South Georgia Motorsports Park (SGMP) once again for Duck X Productions’ (DXP) Lights Out 13 last week. Donald “Duck” Long and his team filled the pits of SGMP with nothing but the best radial tire racers in the country to see who would win the Super Bowl of radial racing.

Radial vs The World continues to be one of the most exciting radial tire classes in drag racing. During qualifying at Lights Out, number one qualifier Jason Lee lit the boards with a stunning 3.499 after many had struggled to get down the track. As eliminations unfolded, the typical top runners in the class advanced until Bryan Markiewicz and Ken Quartuccio were the two remaining racers in the class. Quartuccio’s .055 light, and 3.764 E.T. was enough to defeat Markiewicz, and give him his first Radial vs The World win at a DXP event.

Mo Hall once again absolutely owned the Pro 275 class behind the wheel of his nitrous-fed 2007 Corvette. During qualifying, Hall went number one with a 3.740 and he never looked back after that. Hall smashed his way through the field when eliminations began by defeating every opponent with a pass in the 3.70s. Eric Dillard gave Hall his biggest scare of the weekend in the final round, but when Dillard’s Camaro began to climb towards the sky, Hall drove by him to bring home the win.

Limited Drag Radial had the tightest field at Lights Out 13, and that led to some amazing racing when eliminations began. The top 10 cars were separated by only a few hundredths in LDR, and the rest of the field was packed in just as tight. After five rounds of brutal competition, Dallas Buchanan found himself in the winner’s circle for the first time after defeating DJ McCain in the finals.

In X275, Rob Goss was the story of the event going number one with a 4.143, before resetting the X275 record in the second round of eliminations thanks to a 4.131 E.T. While the numbers Goss threw down were impressive, it was Frank Mewshaw who picked up his first win at a DXP event behind the wheel of Terry Ryan’s 1989 Mustang.

Ultra Street world champion Dave Fiscus had to overcome a lot of adversity at Lights Out 13 to bring home the win. During qualifying, Fiscus hurt one of his Buick V6 engines bad enough it had to be replaced. Fiscus and his team thrashed to get the car ready and make the field in the number 22 spot. The transmission behind the V6 was the next part to fail, and the team had to replace that next. All the hard work paid off, though, as Fiscus raced his way into the final round where he defeated Mike Freeman.

In DXP Street, Michael Strickland came from the 14th qualifying spot to win, and Jason Riley made the most out of his number two qualifying spot and used to win the Limited 235 class at Lights Out 13.
