This 1/4-Mile Alabama Dragstrip Is For Sale

It’s certainly not the cheapest point of entry to racetrack ownership that we’ve shared here on DRAGZINE in recent years, but Montgomery, Alabama’s Capital City Motorsports Park will certainly get you in the game at an elevated level.

The 1/4-mile drag racing facility is on the market with Wills Property Group at an asking price of $4.25 million. Situated on 138 acres and with ample capability for grassroots and outlaw door-car racing, Capital City most notably hosted the famed Million Dollar Drag Race from 2011-2020, and again in 2022.

Arguably one of the more underrated tracks in the country, Capital City has facilities that rival some of the more national-level drag strips, from its three-story timing tower, full length concrete retaining walls, to the permanent aluminum grandstands, large restrooms and concessions, paved pit parking, and large, modern scoreboards. The tower is impressive in itself, with a live-in, condo-like suite with a tile shower and all, and and a separate suite unit with a row of recliners to watch drag racing in style. That this place isn’t being utilized for large standalone events and touring series is a bit of a crime.

Beyond the tower that holds the track office, control and broadcasting rooms, VIP and owner’s suite, a new 4,000 square foot workshop with four 16-foot roll up doors is situated next to the starting line, a concessions and merchandise shop, men’s and women’s public bathroom, ticketing booth, storage and more.

As listing agents often do these days to expand the revenue possibilities of a large, seasonal venue like this, they’ve noted that the property can also function as an event venue for hosting gatherings including shows, concerts and cook-offs. Certain equipment and maintenance vehicles go with the sale.

The property sits near the Interstate 65 and Interstate 85 interchange, and is directly accessible from State Highway 152, giving it easy access to markets in Nashville, Birmingham, New Orleans and Atlanta.
