PRI 2023: Frankenstein Launches Innovative LS Single-Plane Intake

Frankenstein Engine Dynamics (FED) knows how to make horsepower. The company’s newest product recently debuted at the massive 2023 Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Show. This intake is so new they don’t have an official name for it yet, but that didn’t stop FED from bringing it out for all to see at the PRI Show, and we’re glad they did. It’s an innovative take on a design most hot rodders are familiar with.

The Frankenstein LS single-plane intake manifold comprises two halves with a variety of top options, catering to different carburetor styles and throttle body configurations. The available flange options include a 4150, 4500, 6500, and 8500, an elbow, and a dual 90mm throttle body setup, with more options in development. This flexibility allows users to tailor the manifold to their specific needs for optimal performance.

Key features of the manifold include CNC porting by FED, a 215 cubic-inch plenum volume (without the top), and a 4.6-inch CSA at the top of the runner. The taper is set at 28 percent, providing an ideal balance between airflow and performance. Frankenstein Engine Dynamics will offer a range of options for the intake itself, including porter’s castings, as-cast, and several CNC-ported versions to suit various applications. One standout feature of the manifold is the modular 6500 flange, which has multiple sizes of venturis for different carburetor sizes that can be changed out easily. This allows for swapping carburetors using the same intake manifold.

Additionally, there’s an option for o-ringed intake ports that eliminates the need for traditional paper gaskets, simplifying the installation process. We were also informed that there is going to be an option for both single- and dual-fuel injector provisions. FED has done an excellent job of creating a solution to fit a large number of combinations. This intake manifold can be configured to perform great with boosted engines, nitrous setups, and naturally aspirated engines.

The LS single-plane intake manifold will initially be available for LS7 and LS3 engines, with plans to expand the compatibility to other models in the future. Frankenstein Engine Dynamics aims to offer the manifold at a competitive price point, with an estimated starting price of $2300 for the carburetor-style tops, with pricing varying based on the chosen configuration. Car enthusiasts can expect the release of the Frankenstein LS single-plane intake manifold in the second quarter of 2024.
