ADRL: Same day coverage from Virginia. Perennial radial tire frontrunner Steve Jackson, back behind the wheel of his famous orange Fox body Mustang, scored the first ever Pro Drag Radial win at the ADRL U.S. Drags VI at the Virginia Motorsports Park, outlasting a stout field of 24 racers to claim the crown. Jackson edged out final round foe Mark Micke, 4.52 to 4.79. In Pro Extreme, Von Smith defeated Joe Martin with a 3.63, and Jim Laurita claimed Pro Nitrous from the No. 1 qualifying spot with a 3.77 in the final opposite of Matt Suite’s 3.93. Other winners included John Montecalvo (Extreme Pro Stock), Eric McKinney (Pro Extreme Motorcycle), Jimmy Keen (Pro Mod), Shane Stack (Pro Drag Radial Gambler’s), and others. NHRA Division 3: Brandon Booher won his first Lucas Oil Series trophy on Sunday at the NHRA North Central division meet at Chicago’s Route 66 Raceway as he claimed the Top Alcohol Dragster crown with a smooth 5.38 in the final while opponent Chris Demke struck the tires at the hit. Booher was joined by Top Alcohol Funny Car champ Chris Foster, who just edged out final round foe Cassie Simonton by a narrow margin of eight feet, 5.63 to 5.66. Mark Kirkman went red in his first career Competition Eliminator final, handing the win to Greg Kamplain and his B/ED in an all-dragster final. For complete results, visit Drag Race Central.
NHRA Division 4 Kevin Self was a scant .001 red in the Competition Eliminator finale at the NHRA South Central division race at Louisiana’s No Problem Raceway Park, handing the win to Raymond Martin. Martin was joined by Super Stock winner Slate Cummings, Stock champ David Latino, .90 winners Alan Savage, John Wright, and Tony Jones, along with a host of others. NHRA Division 7: A dust storm ahead of an impending thunderstorm may have cut short the NHRA Pacific Division race at the Fallon Raceway in Nevada, but not before series officials got in all but two of the final round contests. In Competition Eliminator, Randy Jones was first off the line and further index to score the crown over Tyler Hogan, while Mera Silvia was dead-on the dial with a zero in the Top Sportsman final to overcome a better light by opponent Jeff Gillette. Rick Beckstrom scored in Super Comp, running a 9.307 in the final, and remains alive for a double-up when the Super Gas final is contested in Sonoma next month.
